Yunus 89–106

Pharaoh drowned in the sea that split apart and his faith at the last moment is not accepted, unlike the people of Prophet Yunus who believed right before the punishment truly descended.

The sea split by a strike of Musa's staff, then closed again when Pharaoh and his army pursued behind.
Pharaoh's body was saved to become a lesson for those who came after.
The Prophet Muhammad and his Ummah are reminded not to harbor the slightest doubt about the revelation revealed.
Allah is described as able to force all mankind to believe, but He grants them freedom to choose so His justice is proven.
The criterion of faith mentioned is lack of doubt, worshipping Allah alone, submitting sincerely to Islam, not associating partners with Him, and not asking from anyone other than Allah.

Verses 89-93 still explain the tragic end of Pharaoh and his army. It began with the acceptance of the supplication of Prophet Musa and Harun and the command to remain steadfast on the path of Allah while Pharaoh's way of life was not based on knowledge.

Then Allah arranged a scenario to drown Pharaoh and the nobles of his palace by commanding Prophet Musa and his followers to flee Egypt toward the Red Sea. Upon hearing this news, Pharaoh became angry and gathered a large army to chase and capture Musa and his followers. When Pharaoh and his army reached near Musa at the shores of the Red Sea, Allah commanded Musa to strike the sea with his staff, and the sea split so Musa and his followers could cross safely. Pharaoh and his army followed from behind. When entering the split sea, Allah united the sea again as it was before. Pharaoh and his army drowned immediately.

At that moment Pharaoh realized the existence of Allah and wanted to believe in Him. But it was too late and his repentance was not accepted. Allah preserved Pharaoh's corpse (Ramses II) to become a lesson for the rebellious peoples after him. That corpse is now in Egypt.

Verses 94-97 explain so that Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Ummah do not doubt in the least the revelation and Islam that Allah revealed. For if you doubt and reject it, you will experience the same fate as Pharaoh and his army.

Verses 98-106 explain several principles related to preaching to Allah and spreading the religion of Tawhīd. Among them:

The characteristic of most people, especially the rulers, find it difficult to accept the teaching of Tawhīd from Allah's messengers, including that brought by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). We can witness this now from the approximately 6 billion people inhabiting the earth, only about 1.3 billion are Muslim. Of those who accept Islam, only how many rulers and their people are willing to accept Islam as the way of life? It is different with the people of Prophet Yunus; when they saw that Allah's punishment would come down because of their disbelief in Him, they immediately believed with true faith.
Allah is able to force all people on earth to believe, but Allah does not want to force His will upon mankind. Allah gives them the opportunity to choose with their minds and hearts voluntarily, so that Allah's justice can be proven by mankind themselves.
The factor that causes mankind to reject the oneness of Allah and His religion (Islam) is because they do not use their minds maximally and correctly. Yet the phenomena of death, the heavenly and earthly bodies created by Allah, and even various forms of Allah's punishment that befell the peoples of old are sufficient as evidence of His power.
Allah guarantees the safety of His messengers and those who truly believe in Him, both in this world and in the Hereafter.
Prohibition of tolerance between the Muslim Ummah and other communities. Among the criteria of faith are: no doubt, worshipping Allah alone, sincere submission to Islam, not associating partners with Allah, and not supplicating or asking from anyone other than Allah.
