Al-Baqarah 154–169

Tests consisting of fear, hunger, and loss are met with patience, then proofs of Allah's power in creation are presented as the reason why there is no equal to Him.

• Those who fall in the way of Allah remain alive in the realm of Barzakh and obtain blessings, while the believers are tested with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, family, and fruits.
• Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah and the sa'i between them becomes part of the worship of Umrah and Hajj.
• Those who hide the truth receive Allah's curse, but their repentance is accepted if they reform themselves and reveal what they concealed.
• Allah's power is evident in the creation of the heavens and earth, the alternation of day and night, ships that sail, rain that fertilizes the earth, and wind that drives the clouds.
• In the Hereafter, the leaders are separated from their regretful followers, and people are commanded to consume what is halal and good and to be wary of Satan's traps.

Verses 154-163 explain several things:

1. Those who die as martyrs in the way of Allah are alive in the realm of Barzakh and receive blessings from Allah.
2. Allah tests the believers with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, family members, and fruits. The believer who patiently endures and says: 'We belong to Allah and to Him we will return,' receives the blessings of life, Allah's mercy and His guidance.
3. The hills of Safa and Marwah are among Allah's symbols. The sa'i between them is part of the worship of Umrah and Hajj. Whoever among the believers does good, Allah will certainly reward it.
4. Those who hide the truth in the Qur'an after the Messenger has explained it will receive the curse of Allah, the angels and the believers. If they repent, reform themselves, and reveal what they concealed, Allah accepts their repentance.
5. The disbelievers who die in their disbelief will enter the Fire, abide therein forever, their punishment will not be eased and they will not be helped. For this reason, there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.

Various proofs of Allah's power can be understood in the creation of the heavens and earth, the alternation of night and day, ships that sail the seas, rain falling from the sky that makes the earth fertile, thus becoming a source of life for various animals, and wind that drives the clouds between the earth and sky.

Some people take gods as equals to Allah and love these gods as they love Allah. True believers are those who love Allah above all things.

The disbelievers and polytheists will know that all power belongs to Allah when they see the punishment of the Fire in the Hereafter. Allah's punishment is severe.

When they see Allah's punishment in the Hereafter, the leaders of the disbelievers and polytheists disown their followers and the ties between them are cut. The followers regret their deeds. Allah shows them the consequences of their disbelief and polytheism, so they increase in regret. They will not be removed from the Fire, even if they regret following the disbelievers.

Allah reminds us to eat what is halal and good. Beware of Satan, for Satan traps us with haram and doubtful food so that we are easily led by him to commit sin, obscenity, and falsehood against Allah.
