Al-Baqarah 203–215
Two character types of humans are compared: those who speak eloquently but cause corruption, and those who sacrifice themselves for Allah's pleasure, then it is affirmed that paradise is only reached after enduring severe trials.
Verse 203 continues to explain the procedures of Hajj worship. On the days of Hajj performance, namely dates 8 through 13 of Dhul-Hijjah, it is recommended to increase remembrance (dhikr) of Allah. Staying overnight (mabit) in Mina is permissible until the 12th or 13th of Dhul-Hijjah. Those who choose until the 12th - this is fine and is called nafar awwal. Those who choose until the 13th is also fine. What is important is that this choice is based on God-consciousness (taqwā) towards Allah, not for worldly trade or the like. Because everything done during the Hajj season and also outside the Hajj season is hoped to become a good deed on the scale of the Hajji on the Day of Resurrection.
Verses 204-206 explain some characteristics of certain people: eloquent speakers regarding worldly affairs that impress many people and swear by Allah in explaining their goals and intentions. Yet they are very disobedient to Allah and His Messenger. When not among the Muslims, they strive to cause corruption on earth, and destroy crops and livestock, while Allah does not love corruption. When reminded to fear (have God-consciousness/taqwā) Allah, they become proud of their sin. Hell (Jahannam) will be their final destination.
Verse 207 explains that among the Muslims there are those who sacrifice themselves and their wealth seeking only the pleasure (ridha) of Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who do so.
Verses 208-210 explain that there are only two paths in life: the path of Islam and the path of Satan. To avoid falling into the path of Satan, enter the path of Islam completely and totally. Remember, Satan is our clear enemy. If you ever slip from the path of Islam after understanding it clearly, then Allah will punish those who do not repent and will forgive those who repent. Regret your sins while still alive in this world. In the Hereafter there is no more opportunity for regret.
Verses 211-213 explain the attitude of the Bani Israel who were given many blessings by Allah including revelation. Yet they preferred the traditions of their ancestors and followed their desires. Allah punished them in this world and in the Hereafter they will face even harsher punishment. The life of this world has been made beautiful to the disbelievers among the People of the Book and others. Because of this, they ridicule the believers. Yet those who are conscious of Allah (muttaqin) will be above them on the Day of Judgment. Because of this, the believers should not grieve, for Allah provides for those conscious of Him from sources they do not expect. Mankind was once one community in religion. To maintain the unity of this religion, Allah sent Prophets whose duty was to give good tidings and warnings and revealed to them the Scripture with truth so the Prophets could judge the matters disputed by their people. Those who dispute about Allah's religion after the coming of revelation do so out of envy that exists within themselves, as happened among the People of the Book. Allah will guide those who believe in the truth of the Qur'an to His straight path.
Verse 214 affirms that to enter paradise one must pass through various trials as experienced by previous communities such as misfortune, suffering, and upheaval, until the Messenger ﷺ and the believers with him asked when the help of Allah would come. Indeed, the help of Allah is very near to the believers.
Verse 215 explains that the priority of charity (sadaqah) is towards parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, and the wayfarer. So do not hesitate to spend; Allah will certainly record it and give you its reward.
