Day 176 · Surah Taha Verses 114-135

Taha 114–135

Satan's temptation of Adam through promises of an eternal tree and an everlasting kingdom, Adam's repentance while still being chosen as a caliph, then the narrow fate of those who forget the Qur'an and the means of facing defiance.

The Messenger is admonished not to hasten in reciting the Qur'an before the revelation is complete, and is asked to pray for increase in knowledge.
Satan trapped Adam with words that seemed right about an eternal tree and a kingdom that would not perish, so Adam and his wife were deceived.
Adam's mistake was not due to arrogance, so his repentance was accepted and he was still chosen to be a caliph on earth where his descendants are tested.
Those who do not practice the contents of the Qur'an will face a narrow life, be gathered on the Day of Gathering in a state of blindness, and be forgotten as they forgot the guidance.
The means of facing the defiance of the people are to be patient over humiliation, glorify Allah morning, evening and in the middle of the night, not be deceived by worldly luxury, and establish prayer in the family.

Verse 114 explains that the one who revealed the Qur'an is Allah, the Most High King and the Just. Therefore, Allah admonishes the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) not to hasten in reciting the Qur'an before the revelation is complete and to ask Allah to increase his knowledge.

Verses 115-125 explain Satan's cunning in tempting Adam. Although Adam disobeyed Allah's command, he was still chosen by Allah to be His caliph and his repentance was accepted, because Adam's mistake was not due to arrogance in his heart but he was deceived by Satan's blandishments. Satan trapped him with words that at first seemed right, cloaked in the phrases 'eternal tree' and 'a kingdom that will never perish.' Then Adam and his wife were deceived.

The wisdom behind Adam's mistake is that Allah fulfilled His promise to make Adam His caliph on earth. In the life of this world, the descendants of Adam will face various trials from Allah to test who among them is God-conscious toward Him and who is disobedient to Him.

So that mankind does not go astray, Allah has given them guidance contained in His Books, including the Qur'an. Whoever does not practice the contents of the Qur'an will face a narrow life and be gathered on the Day of Gathering in a state of blindness. Then they will ask why they are blind at that time.

Verses 126-135 explain:

Continuing from the previous verses regarding the fate of those who do not take the Qur'an as their way of life. In the Hereafter, Allah will forget those who forgot the Qur'an as their guide while living in this world. Their punishment is the torment of Hell and they will abide therein. Why did they not want to take lessons from the various nations destroyed before them?
Allah gives the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) the means to successfully face the defiance of his people by: being patient over the humiliation of the disbelievers; glorifying Allah before the sun rises and before it sets (morning and evening prayers), and in the middle of the night; not being deceived by the worldly life given to the disbelievers and being convinced that Paradise is far better than this world and all it contains; forming the family into a family of worshippers beginning with establishing prayer properly and consistently; and not accepting the various excuses of the disbelievers for not believing in the Hereafter, because Allah has explained in the Qur'an all the causes of the destruction of previous nations.

Then in the Hereafter they will know who is astray and who has received guidance.
