Day 178 · Surah Al-Anbiya' Verses 25-44

Al-Anbiya' 25–44

The essence of the revelation to all messengers is monotheism, angels are affirmed as honored servants not children of Allah, and the request to hasten the punishment is answered that punishment will surely come in its due time.

Verses 25-35 explain some basic principles of monotheism that Allah revealed to His messengers and also to the Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

  1. All messengers received revelation from Allah. The essence of the revelation's teaching is affirming the oneness of Allah and the command to worship and serve only Allah.
  2. Many people claim that Allah has daughters from among the angels. Yet the angels are honored servants of Allah. They never precede Allah's word and carry out all of Allah's commands. Allah knows everything the angels do. They cannot intercede except for those with whom Allah is pleased. The angels are also very careful in their speech out of fear of Allah.
  3. Whoever claims to be a god besides Allah, his reward is Hell. That is the reward of the wrongdoer, as Pharaoh experienced.
  4. The event of the Big Bang is Allah's way of separating the earth and the heavens. All living creatures Allah created from water. Yet the disbelievers still refuse to believe and acknowledge Allah because they are arrogant and rely on their own reason.
  5. The spread-out earth, mountains as stakes for the earth and the preserved heavens, the alternation of night and day, the sun and moon orbiting in their courses, all are signs of Allah's greatness and His oneness. All glorify Allah (proceed according to Allah's system). Sadly, the disbelievers continue not to receive guidance because they turn away from Allah's signs.
  6. Allah has decreed that every soul shall taste death, including the prophets and messengers. Trials can come in the form of evil or good. Blessed are those who are patient and grateful.

Verses 36-44 explain several matters:

  1. The disbelievers mock the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) because he explained that the gods they worship have no power or means whatsoever. They should have been willing to be reminded of Allah.
  2. Allah created humans with a hasty nature. Yet they use it to ask for Allah's punishment to be hastened. They do not need to be asked to hasten the punishment, because the punishment for the disbelievers will come in its due time. If they knew that the Fire of Hell will burn their faces and backs and there is no one to help them there, they would surely not ask for the punishment to be hastened in this world. The punishment in this world will come to them suddenly causing them to be confused and they will be utterly unable to prevent it or delay it in the slightest.
  3. Allah comforts the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) by explaining that all messengers sent before him were also mocked. So Allah surrounded them with various kinds of His punishment because of their deeds and disobedience.
  4. Allah commands the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to warn mankind that no one will be able to save them from Allah's punishment whether it comes by night or by day except Allah the Most Merciful. Yet they turn away from that warning.
  5. The disbelievers dare to challenge Allah's punishment because they believe their gods are able to help and save them. In fact, those gods cannot even save themselves, let alone save the people who worship them. If the punishment is not sent down, it only means Allah is postponing it. Has not Allah reduced the territory of the disbelievers from every side? Are they able to withstand it?
