Day 180 · Surah Al-Anbiya' Verses 58-81

Al-Anbiya' 58–81

Ibrahim destroyed his people's idols except the largest one then asked them to ask it, was sentenced to burning but the fire was made cool, and followed by a succession of prophets given wisdom and leadership.

Ibrahim destroyed all the idols except the largest, then he was brought forcibly to be tried before the assembly.
He asked them to question the large idol that still stood intact, so they could come to their senses, then he asked them why they worship what cannot benefit or harm them.
Namrud and his people wanted to burn him, but the fire was commanded to be cool; Ibrahim and Luth were saved and Ibrahim was granted Ishak and Yakub.
Ibrahim, Ishak, and Yakub were made leaders who received revelation to do good, establish prayer, and give zakat, while Luth was given wisdom and was saved from the land of those who committed grave sins.
Nuh's prayer was answered with a flood that destroyed his people, while Dawud was given dominion over the mountains and birds and taught the craft of iron-working, and Sulaiman was given dominion over the raging wind.

Verses 58-72 continue the earlier story of Ibrahim. How clever Ibrahim's strategy was in bringing his people's thinking from error back to correct thinking. His method was to destroy all the idols they worshiped except the large one which he left standing. After seeing the idols broken, they were convinced that it was a young man named Ibrahim who did it. They brought Ibrahim by force to be tried before the assembly. From that trial we can draw the following lessons:

Ibrahim's strategy of destroying all the idols except the large one was very clever so that they could come to their senses for a moment.
The logic Ibrahim constructed was very clever. First it appeared when Ibrahim asked them to question the large idol that still stood intact. They came to their senses for a moment about the error of their ways. Second, when Ibrahim said to them: Why then do you worship gods besides Allah that can give you no benefit or harm whatsoever?
Ibrahim was a very brave person who did not fear risk in order to establish the word of monotheism among his people.
The ruler Namrud and his people used violence and terrorism to kill Ibrahim by burning. Allah commanded the fire to be cool. Allah saved Ibrahim and Luth and granted Ibrahim Ishak and Yakub.

Verses 73-81 explain that Ibrahim and some of his descendants became leaders of mankind as Allah chose them to be messengers. Allah's revelation commanded them to do good, establish prayer, give zakat and obey Allah completely. Some of the prophets that Allah saved and made into leaders were:

Ibrahim, Ishak and Yakub. Allah made them leaders who spread guidance by His command. Allah revealed to them to do good, establish prayer and give zakat. They are people devoted to worship.
Allah gave him wisdom and knowledge. Allah saved him from the inhabitants of the land who committed homosexual sin. Allah admitted him into His mercy and among His righteous servants.
Allah answered Nuh's prayer to destroy all the disbelieving people. Allah destroyed them with a great flood. Allah saved him and his family, except his son, from that great calamity and Allah gave him victory over his rebellious people by drowning them.
Dawud and Sulaiman. Allah granted them wisdom and knowledge. Allah subdued for Dawud the mountains and the birds so they glorify with him. Allah taught him the craft of iron-working. Allah subdued for Sulaiman the raging wind to carry him wherever he willed in the land of Sham.
