Day 184 · Surah Al-Hajj Verses 6-23

Al-Hajj 6–23

The certainty of Resurrection is affirmed then highlighted are those who worship only during prosperity, Allah's just judgment over all groups on the Day of Judgment, and a detailed picture of Hell's punishment contrasted with Paradise's reward.

The Last Hour surely comes and Allah will resurrect those who were buried, while those who argue about Allah without knowledge will be humiliated in this world and punished in the Hereafter.
Some people obey Allah only as far as pleases them; content when good comes but turn away when calamity strikes, thus losing in both this world and the Hereafter.
The Qur'an was revealed with clear verses in word and meaning, and on the Day of Judgment Allah will judge justly between the believers, Jews, Sabians, Christians, Magians, and polytheists.
The heavens, earth, sun, moon, stars, mountains, animals, and many people are said to submit to Allah, while two groups that dispute about Allah will continue to exist until the Last Hour.
The disbelievers will be clothed in garments of fire, boiling water poured over them destroying their bellies and skins, and beaten with whips of iron; while the believers will be given ornaments of gold, pearls, and garments of silk.

Verses 6-10 continue from the previous verses and Allah will surely realize the event of the Last Hour for He is Allah the True Lord. He will surely give life to those who have died and He has power over all things. Indeed the Last Hour will surely come and Allah will resurrect mankind who have been buried. Among mankind are those who argue about Allah without knowledge, guidance or an illuminating scripture, while turning away to lead people astray from Allah's path. Such people will be humiliated in this world and in the Hereafter Allah will put them in intense Hell. That is the reward for the evil they did and Allah does not wrong His servants in the least.

Verses 11-13 explain that some people obey Allah only based on what they like. When they receive good, their hearts are content. When afflicted with evil, they turn away from Allah. Such people lose in this world and the Hereafter. He worships gods that cannot bring harm or benefit. That is a far error. The god called upon besides Allah will not be able to be a helper or close friend in the Hereafter.

Verse 14 explains that Allah will surely admit the believers who do righteous deeds into Gardens beneath which rivers flow. Allah does whatever He wills.

Verse 15 explains that those who do not believe that Allah helps Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in this world and the Hereafter would be better off hanging themselves. Will such an act be of use in eliminating hatred for the Messenger's (peace and blessings be upon him) preaching? Certainly it will be of no use.

Verses 16-23 explain:

Allah revealed the Qur'an with His clear verses; in both word and meaning. Therefore, Allah will guide those who believe in and study it.
On the Day of Judgment Allah will judge justly between the believers, Jews, Sabians, Christians, Magians and polytheists. Allah witnesses all that people do, whether hidden or open.
Why do the disbelievers and polytheists not wish to worship only Allah?
Do they not observe all that is in the heavens and earth, the sun, moon, stars, mountains, crawling creatures and many of mankind who prostrate and submit to Allah? Many are men who merit straying. Whom Allah humiliates, none can honor him. Allah does as He wills and none of His creatures can hinder Him.
Yet there are two groups who dispute about Allah and will continue until the Last Hour, namely the group of believers and the group of disbelievers, whether from among the People of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) or others.
The disbelievers in the Hereafter will be clothed in garments of fire and boiling water will be poured over their heads, its heat like that of molten brass destroying their bellies and skins. They will be beaten with whips of iron. Every time they try to escape from the torment, they are brought back so they feel continuous punishment.

The believers who do righteous deeds will enter Gardens beneath which rivers flow, given ornaments of gold and pearls. Their garments will be of silk. Seeing the severity of Hell's punishment and the grandeur of Paradise's reward for the believers, we should focus our lives on attaining Paradise.
