Day 185 · Surah Al-Hajj Verses 24-38

Al-Hajj 24–38

Threats against those who prevent people from the Sacred Mosque, the assignment to Ibrahim to purify the House of Allah and call people to Hajj, then the series of rites and affirmation that only God-consciousness reaches Allah.

• The disbelievers who prevent people from Allah's way and the Sacred Mosque and who intend to commit wrongdoing therein are threatened with grievous punishment.
• Ibrahim was commanded not to associate partners with Allah, to purify the House from idols as a place for circumambulation, bowing and prostration, then to call people to perform Hajj.
• People come from every corner to witness the benefits of Hajj, to recite the Talbiyah, to sacrifice animals some of which are eaten and some given to the poor.
• The series of rites are said to include cutting hair and nails, fulfilling vows, and the final circumambulation, accompanied by the command to avoid filthy idols and false speech.
• Worship must be sincere without any mixture of shirk, and the blood and flesh of sacrifice are not needed by Allah for what is valued is only God-consciousness.

Verses 24 and 25 continue the previous theme regarding Paradise as reward for the believers. In the Hereafter they will be shown good words and the way of Allah the Most Praised. As for the disbelievers who prevent people from Allah's way and from the Sacred Mosque which Allah made for the believers, whether residents or visitors, and whoever intends to commit wrongdoing and injustice therein, Allah will cause him to taste a grievous punishment.

Verses 26-30 explain that Allah's purpose in showing the location of the House to Ibrahim was so that Ibrahim would not associate partners with Allah in any way. Allah also commanded Ibrahim to purify the House from idols as a place for circumambulation, worship, bowing and prostration. Ibrahim was also commanded to call people to the House to perform Hajj. People will come from every corner of the earth in various ways so they may witness the benefits of Hajj and recite the Talbiyah during the days of Hajj as gratitude for the blessing of sacrificial animals. Some of it may be eaten and the rest given to the poor and needy. Then cut hair, nails and so forth, fulfill vows if any, and perform the circumambulation around the House.

Thus are the rites of Hajj commanded by Allah. Whoever avoids what Allah has forbidden, that is better for him in Allah's sight. All livestock are lawful except what has been forbidden. So keep away from filthy idols and false speech.

Verses 31-37 relate to the previous verses. Dedicate your worship to Allah, let it not be mixed with shirk, glorifying the symbols of worship is part of piety, you may eat some of the meat of the offerings and sacrifices and sacrifice them in the Sacred precincts. Allah made a festival day for each nation of His messengers so they remember His name over the livestock He provides them. The God of the Muslims is One so surrender yourselves to Him.

Glad tidings for those who submit to Allah, when His name is mentioned their hearts fear, they are patient over trials, establish prayer and give of the provision Allah has given them. Allah made the camels part of the symbols of worship. Mention Allah's name when you sacrifice them in standing and let it fall dead perfectly. Give its flesh to the poor who ask and those who do not ask. The blood and flesh of the sacrifice are not needed by Allah. Allah only values our God-consciousness toward Him. He subjugates the camels for us to exalt Him by the guidance of Islam. Glad tidings for those who perform the pilgrimage perfectly.

Verse 38 explains that Allah will surely help the believers against the harm of those who betray Allah and His Messenger and against the disbelievers.
