Day 200 · Surah Al-Furqan Verses 12-32

Al-Furqan 12–32

The description of Hellfire roaring to welcome the deniers compared with Paradise for the God-conscious, followed by the regret of the polytheists and the complaint of the Prophet that his people abandoned the Qur'an.

• Hellfire roars and thunders when it sees the deniers from afar, then they cry out asking for annihilation even though they will remain in it eternally.
• In the hereafter the gods of the polytheists are questioned and they refuse to be blamed, instead mentioning the worshippers themselves were ungrateful for the blessings and forgot the Qur'an.
• The reason that they will only believe if an angel is sent down or Allah is seen with the eyes is of no benefit, as the good deeds they did in the world become worthless.
• The polytheists regret not taking the path of the messenger and instead followed people and devils who led them astray.
• Regarding the objection about why the Qur'an was not sent down all at once, it is explained that gradual revelation strengthens the Prophet's and believers' hearts and it is to be read with tartil.

Verses 12-20 continue the previous verse regarding those who disbelieve in the Qur'an and the Day of Resurrection.

1. When Hellfire sees those who disbelieved in the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, the Qur'an, and the Day of Resurrection from afar, Hellfire roars with anger and thunder. When the disbelievers are thrown into a narrow place in Hellfire, they cry out asking for annihilation. There is no use asking for annihilation, they will remain in Hellfire forever.
2. Allah gives a comparison between Hellfire which is the place for the disbelievers and Paradise which is the place and reward for the God-conscious. They receive in it whatever they desire. That is a good promise that Allah fulfills.
3. In the hereafter the polytheists will be gathered with their gods. Then their gods are asked if it is true that they led mankind astray. The gods do not acknowledge it and say they were the ungrateful ones and forgot the Qur'an. They are the people who perished. They try to lie, but it is of no avail.
4. All messengers are human; they eat and walk in the markets. Patience is the key to their success.

Verses 21-32 explain:

1. Those who are arrogant and refuse to believe with the excuse that Allah has not sent down angels to them or they can see Allah with their own eyes, on the Day of Resurrection will regret. The good deeds they did in the world have no value in the hereafter.
2. The residents of Paradise will have an excellent dwelling place and resting place.
3. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will prove His sole ownership of the kingdom of this universe. On that day, the disbelievers will experience difficulty.
4. The polytheists will greatly regret why they did not take the path of the messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, as their concept of life and instead took the path of men and devils who have led them astray and humiliated them.
5. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, complains to Allah that his people abandoned the Qur'an.
6. Allah has made every prophet have enemies from among the evildoers, and Allah is the One who gives guidance and helps.
7. The disbelievers protest why the Qur'an was not sent down all at once. Allah sends it down gradually to strengthen the heart of the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and the believers and it must be read with tartil.
