An-Naml 45–63

A conspiracy of nine Thamud figures to kill Prophet Salih and the expulsion of Prophet Lot ended with destruction, then mankind is invited to answer who owns the sky, earth, and helps during difficulty.

The people of Thamud split into two warring factions, more quick to do evil than good, and blamed Salih for bringing misfortune.
Nine destructive figures in the city planned to kill Salih and his family at night then pretend not to know, but their scheme was returned by Allah until the city was empty of inhabitants.
Lot called his people to abandon same-sex relations, but they were determined to expel him thinking his family considered themselves pure.
Lot and his family were saved except his wife, while his people were destroyed with a rain of hot stones.
The reader is asked who sends down rain that grows gardens, makes the earth flow with rivers and stand with mountains, answers the distressed supplication, and guides through stars.

Verses 45-53 explain the story of the people of Thamud and Prophet Salih. Salih's command to worship only Allah instead they responded wrongly so they became two groups hostile to each other. They were quicker to do evil than to do good and did not want to ask forgiveness from Allah. They blamed Prophet Salih for bringing bad luck, yet everything is in Allah's hand. They did not realize they were being tested.

In the city where they lived there were 9 figures of evil who always made trouble and did not want to reform themselves. They planned to kill Prophet Salih and his family at night, after which they would testify that they knew nothing. When they plotted this conspiracy, Allah also plotted, while they did not realize it. As a result of plotting against Prophet Salih and his family, Allah destroyed all the inhabitants of the city so their houses were empty of inhabitants. All this was because of their own tyranny. That event should have been a lesson for the people who know their history. Then, Allah saved the believers and the God-conscious from among the followers of Prophet Salih.

Verses 54 and 55 explain the story of Lot when he called his people to abandon the practice of deviant sex, namely homosexuality and refusing to marry women. They were truly an ignorant people, meaning they did not want to live according to the law of their Creator, Allah the Almighty. Therefore, deviant sex is not a human nature as some people understand it today, but a disease and perversion.

Verses 56-59 continue the story of Lot's people before. They were determined to expel Lot and his family because they thought his family considered themselves pure. So Allah saved Lot and his family except his wife who was among the destroyed. Allah sent upon them a rain of hot stones so they were all destroyed. All praise be to Allah who saved His chosen servants. Or is Allah better, or the gods they worship?

Verses 60-63 invite mankind to reflect on Allah's verses in nature so they may know Allah well, through the following questions:

Who created the sky, earth, and sent down rain from the sky so beautiful gardens grow? No one can make its trees grow. Why do people turn away from these facts?
Who made the earth a dwelling place, within it flow rivers, upon it stand firm mountains as barriers between two seas, one fresh and one salty? Why do most people not understand it?
Who is able to answer the supplication of the distressed, relieve distress, and make humans rulers on the earth? Why do people not take it as a lesson?

Who guides people through the darkness of land and sea through the stars in the sky and sends winds as glad tidings before rain falls? Is there another god with Allah? Glory be to Allah from what they associate with Him.
