Day 215 · Surah Al-Qashash Verses 14-28

Al-Qasas 14–28

Moses' mistaken blow that killed a man led him to repent and flee to Midian, where he helped two girls and eventually married with a work contract of eight to ten years.

When Moses grew up, Allah gave him wisdom and knowledge, then his fist killed a Copt man who was fighting with a man from Bani Israel.
Moses repented and promised not to use Allah's blessing to help wrongdoers, even from his own group.
The next quarrel revealed the secret that Moses was the culprit, then someone from the outskirts of the city informed him that the nobles were conspiring to kill him.
On fleeing to Midian, Moses helped two girls in difficulty drawing water then complained of his need to Allah.
One of the girls suggested Moses be hired for his strength and trustworthiness, and Shu'aib married his daughter to him with a wage of eight to ten years of work as Moses chose.

Verses 14-21 continue the story of Moses and Pharaoh previously.

When Moses grew up, Allah gave him wisdom and knowledge.
One from Bani Israel who was fighting with one from the Coptic people asked Moses for help. Moses struck him and the Copt died. Moses regretted his mistake. He repented to Allah and promised not to use Allah's blessing to help criminals and sinners, even from his own tribe.
Moses felt afraid to stay in Egypt. While seeking news, the man who asked for help before cried out for help again. Moses was angry and said: You are truly misguided. When Moses was about to hit him, the man said: Do you want to kill me like you killed someone yesterday? Then you want to be a tyrant on the earth and not a peacemaker. From this statement the news spread that the killer of the man from the Coptic tribe was Moses.
After this, someone from the outskirts of the city informed Moses that the nobles of Pharaoh were conspiring to kill him and asked him to leave Egypt immediately. Moses prayed for Allah to save him from the tyrannical people.

Verses 22-28 continue the story of Moses' flight and departure from Egypt. In this episode, Moses experienced and did the following things:

Moses fled toward Midian. He was confident that Allah would show him the right way.
Moses helped two girls who were having difficulty drawing water from a water source crowded with many people. While sheltering in the shade, he complained of his need to Allah in the land he had just entered.
Then, one of the girls came to Moses bashfully conveying that her father, Prophet Shu'aib, invited Moses to his house to pay for the help Moses had given them. After meeting Prophet Shu'aib, Moses told him about the events he had faced. Then Prophet Shu'aib said: You are safe from the tyrannical people.
Suddenly one of the girls suggested to her father to hire Moses because Moses possessed two noble qualities: strong and trustworthy or honest.
Prophet Shu'aib accepted his daughter's suggestion and married one of his daughters to Moses. As compensation, Moses was asked to work with him for 8 years and at most 10 years. Actually Shu'aib did not want to burden Moses. Then they made a work contract for 8 or 10 years based on Moses' choice and Allah is a witness to what they said.

How beautiful it is when someone strong and trustworthy gets a father-in-law who is wise and kind-hearted.
