Day 230 · Surah Ar-Rum Verses 42-60

Ar-Rum 42–60

Wind, clouds and rain that revive dead earth are proof of resurrection, while a dead heart hardly accepts guidance and only patience becomes the provision to face it.

Mankind is asked to examine the evil fate of former polytheists and remain steadfast in obeying Allah before the Day of Judgment comes.
Wind drives rain-bearing clouds and moves ships for trade so that mankind may be grateful.
Those whose hearts are dead and long drowned in misguidance hardly receive guidance; only those who submit to Allah receive it.
Mankind is created weak, then strong, then weak again and gray-haired; at the Day of Judgment there is no more excuse or repentance.
The key to facing those who deny is patience, for Allah's promise is surely true.

Verses 42-50 explain the following:

Allah commands us to investigate the evil consequences that befell various polytheist nations before. Allah also commands us to be steadfast in obeying Him before the Day of Judgment comes. Disbelief in Allah will have evil consequences for those who do it. Likewise, belief in Allah and good deeds will be felt by those who do them.
Among the signs of Allah's greatness is sending wind to drive clouds to obtain His mercy in the form of rain and so that ships can sail on the ocean to conduct trade between islands/nations. The purpose is so that mankind may be grateful to Him.
Allah sent Messengers before Prophet Muhammad. Those who rejected and fought those Messengers, Allah destroyed, and those who believed, Allah saved.
Allah arranges the system of rain so that mankind who receive it rejoice. Why not observe how Allah revives dead earth? Likewise, mankind will be revived afterward.

Verses 51-60 explain the following:

Mankind does not like to suffer loss in business. Loss can cause disbelief.
Those whose hearts are already dead, deaf ears, and turn away from the Qur'an and have been long in misguidance are difficult to receive guidance. Those who can receive guidance are those who submit to Allah.
Allah reminds mankind that they are created weak, then strong, then weak again and gray-haired.
On the Day of Judgment the disbeliever will say they lived only briefly.
Those given knowledge and faith by Allah answer that you have existed since you were created until the day of resurrection. On the Day of Judgment there is no more excuse and no more repentance.
Allah has made every parable in the Qur'an. Although the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) brings miracles, those who disbelieve still accuse Him of bringing falsehood.
Allah seals the hearts of those who do not want to understand the Qur'an.
The key to success in facing them is patience. For Allah's promise is true. Therefore, do not feel humiliated by those who do not believe in Allah and the Hereafter.
