Luqman 20–34

Associating partners with Allah is not rejecting Allah as Creator, but acknowledging Him while rejecting worship and the system of life He has set.

• Many people argue about Allah without knowledge and prefer ancestral tradition, when that is Satan's call to Hellfire.
• Whoever submits to Allah while doing good has grasped a very strong hold, and the disbelief of others should not sadden him.
• Night and day enter one another and the sun and moon orbit until an appointed time, proving gods other than Allah are false.
• Man prays sincerely when rolled by waves at sea, but denies Allah's greatness once on land.
• On the Day of Judgment a father cannot help his son, and only Allah knows the time of the Day of Judgment, what is in the womb, and what will happen tomorrow.

Verses 20-28 explain three important matters:

1. Allah has subjected the system of heavens and earth to mankind's interest and perfected His blessings on them, both apparent and hidden. However, many people argue about Allah without basis of knowledge, guidance and illuminating books. Even when they are invited to follow Allah's revelation (the Qur'an) they refuse and are satisfied with what they received from the thinking and ancestral traditions of their forefathers. Yet following seductive thinking and ancestral traditions is Satan's call that will plunge them into Hell in the Hereafter.
2. Whoever submits himself to Allah while doing good, as explained in the previous verses, is on the straight path and has grasped a very strong hold. Allah will give him a very good reward in the Hereafter. Whoever remains a disbeliever, his disbelief should not sadden you, for he will return to Allah, shown all his deeds, given a little worldly pleasure then forced into Hellfire.
3. Associating partners with Allah does not mean rejecting Allah as Creator of the universe, but acknowledging Allah as the Creator God while simultaneously rejecting worship and the system of life that Allah has created for mankind. There is no reason for mankind to associate partners with Allah, for the heavens, earth and everything between them are His creation and possessions, including mankind.

Verses 29-34 from Surah Luqman explain Allah's greatness and power. Among them, Allah enters night into day, day into night, the sun and moon orbit on their axes until the time He has determined. That is proof of Allah's truth and gods other than Allah are false.

Ships sailing at sea are a sign of Allah's greatness. Only those who are patient and grateful can recognize His greatness. Among the bad characteristics of man when he is at sea while rolled by big waves, he prays to Allah sincerely. But after reaching land he denies Allah's greatness. Only those who are dishonest and disbelieve reject Allah's verses.

Allah urges mankind to be conscious of Him and fear the Day of Judgment. On that day a father cannot help his son nor can a son help his father. Allah's promise is true. Therefore, do not be deceived by this worldly life and those who like to deceive. Only Allah knows when the Day of Judgment will occur. He sends down rain, knows what is in the womb. No one knows what he will do tomorrow and on which land he will die. Truly Allah is All-Knowing and All-Aware.
