Al-Ahzab 31–35

The special status of the Prophet's wives comes with heavy demands, then closed with ten characteristics applicable to every Muslim man and woman.

• The privilege of the Prophet's family is conditional on obedience and good deeds, with a reward of double merit and Paradise.
• They are asked to speak firmly so as not to arouse the desires of those with sickness in their hearts, and speak only good.
• They are commanded to stay at home, not adorn themselves like in the era of ignorance, establish prayer, and pay zakat.
• Their homes are places where the verses of the Qur'an and wisdom are revealed, and this is a great blessing that must be remembered.
• Ten characteristics are mentioned for men and women: submission, belief, truthfulness, patience, humility, charity, fasting, guarding chastity, and much remembrance of Allah.

Verses 31-34 continue the previous verses regarding the wives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). The honor and privilege that Allah gave to the wives and family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) are conditional on their obedience to Allah and His Messenger and doing good deeds. The reward is that they can receive double merit and enter Paradise with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Such status will not be found by other Muslim women, unless they have taqwa of Allah. They must speak firmly so as not to arouse the desires of those with sickness in their hearts and must speak with good speech. They must stay at home, not adorn themselves like women of the era of ignorance, establish prayer, pay zakat, obey Allah and His Messenger. This is how Allah removes sins from Ahlul Bayt (the Prophet's family) and preserves their purity. They must remember Allah's great blessing on them where in their home Allah revealed the verses of the Qur'an and wisdom (the Sunnah of the Messenger). Truly Allah is Most Subtle and Most Aware.

As for verse 35, it explains 10 characteristics that must be possessed by every follower of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) who has spoken the two shahadas (la ilaha illallah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah), whether male or female. These 10 characteristics are: Islam (submission and obedience to all teachings of Islam), belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Day of Judgment, and His decree (both good and bad), truthfulness, patience, humility, charity, fasting, guarding chastity and remembering Allah abundantly. If these 10 characteristics are applied in the life of every Muslim man and woman, then Allah promises them forgiveness and great reward, namely Paradise.
