Saba' 32–54
Wealth and children are not signs of Allah's favor toward someone — only faith and righteous deeds bring one close to His pleasure.
Verses 32 and 33 continue the previous story. The oppressors respond: In truth, it was not we who led you away from guidance in the Qur'an. Rather, you are a criminal people. The oppressed reply: You have plotted day and night commanding us to disbelieve in Allah and set up rivals to Him. All of them regret their disbelief in the Qur'an when they see the punishment of the Fire is before them. Then their necks are bound in chains and they are driven into Hell. This is the fitting punishment for those who disbelieve in Allah.
Verses 34 and 39 explain that in every land to which a Messenger was sent, there is certainly a group of elites who openly disbelieve in him. Their reason is that the Messenger is poor and their mistaken perception of Allah's system. Yet the Provider of sustenance is Allah. He gives to whom He wills. It is a shame that most people do not know this.
Wealth and children are not evidence of Allah's favor toward someone. Rather, it is faith and righteous deeds that can attain Allah's pleasure. Believers who perform righteous deeds will be given a doubled reward and in Paradise will receive lofty and secure dwellings. Conversely, those who strive to hinder people from Allah's path and His Messenger's path, for them is the punishment of Hell. It is Allah who expands and restricts sustenance to whom He wills. Whatever is spent in Allah's way, He will surely repay it, because Allah is the Best Provider.
Verses 40-48 explain that on the Day of Resurrection, the angels will bear witness that the polytheists were indeed worshipping Satan (a disbelieving jinn) and following his commands. On that day, they can neither help one another nor mislead each other. They will all be cast into Hell to taste the punishment of Hell that they rejected as truth while alive in the world.
They also accuse the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) of fabricating lies and sorcery to turn them away from the religion of their forefathers. This rejection also occurred with Allah's previous Messengers, and they too were punished by Allah. Allah commands the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to convey the message of Tawhid. He is not mad, but a bringer of good tidings and a warner before Allah's punishment comes. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is also forbidden from demanding payment for his call of Tawhid because Allah will repay him and give him revelation.
Verses 49-54 explain that the truth of the Qur'an needs to be established so that falsehood perishes. Guidance is only in what is contained in Allah's revelation. Those who reject the Qur'an will experience terrible fear on the Day of Resurrection and wish they were believers. But it will be too late because they were not certain in the world.
