Day 264 · Surah Al-Mukmin Verses 17-33

Gafir 17–33

The warning about the Day of Judgment continues with Pharaoh's arrogance as he sought to kill Musa, then a believing man from his own family emerges who hides his faith and dares to defend Musa.

On the Day of Recompense every soul is rewarded according to its deeds without any injustice, the heart reaches the throat in fear, and the disbelievers have no close friend or helper.
Allah knows the direction of people's eyes and the whispers of hearts, while those worshipped besides Him have no power to decide anything.
The disbelievers are asked to examine the fate of earlier nations who were stronger and more advanced yet were destroyed because of their sins and rejection of the messengers.
Pharaoh, Haman, and Korah rejected the prophethood of Musa, accused him of being a sorcerer and liar, then commanded the killing of the male children of his followers.
A believing man from Pharaoh's family who concealed his faith questioned the plan to kill Musa and warned that their kingdom would not withstand Allah's punishment.

Verses 17-25 explain the following:

Continuing from the previous verses regarding the Plain of Judgment. On that day each soul will be rewarded for what it did. There will be no injustice whatsoever and Allah is swift in reckoning. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was commanded by Allah to warn his people about the Day of Judgment which is drawing near. On that day the heart will almost reach the throat from fear and the disbelievers will have no close friend and no loyal helper.
Allah knows the aim of vision and the whispers of hearts. He decides all human matters with truth. But the gods they worship cannot decide anything. Surely Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.
Allah commands the disbelievers of Quraysh and whoever else disbelieves in Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to study the nations before them whom Allah destroyed. These nations were far stronger and more advanced than them. Allah destroyed them because of the sins they committed and their rejection of the revelation brought by His messengers. Indeed, Allah is Mighty and Severe in punishment.
Among the nations Allah destroyed were Pharaoh, Haman, and Korah. They rejected the prophethood of Musa and the revelation that Allah sent down to him (the Torah). They accused Musa of being a sorcerer and a liar. When Musa brought Allah's revelation to them, they commanded the killing of the male children of Musa's followers. The plots of the disbelievers will never succeed.

Verses 26-33 continue from the previous verses regarding Pharaoh's arrogance toward the revelation (the Torah) that Allah sent down to Musa and the plots he made against Musa and his followers. This episode provides the following lessons:

Pharaoh was arrogant toward the revelation (the Torah) that Allah sent down to Musa because he felt his ancestors' religion was better than the religion Allah sent down.
Pharaoh was determined to kill Musa because of his fear over Musa's success in changing the religion of the ancestors which they had followed, and he accused Musa of intending to spread corruption on earth. The Prophet Musa faced Pharaoh's arrogance with patience and reliance on Allah.
A believing man from Pharaoh's family who concealed his faith said: 'Why does Pharaoh kill a man who acknowledges Allah as his Lord? Musa is not a liar. What he conveys regarding Allah's punishment for the disbelievers is true. Allah does not give guidance to the transgressive and lying ones. The kingdom you possess today will not withstand Allah's punishment. I am only expressing my personal view and I will only guide you to the path of righteousness.' The believer continued: 'I fear for you the fate of past nations and the punishment of the Hereafter which is more severe. At that time there will be no helper except Allah. Whoever Allah leaves astray will have no guide.'
