Day 285 · Surah Al-Jatsiyah Verses 23-37

Al-Jasiyah 23–37

Those who take their desires as their god are left astray despite their knowledge; their hearing and hearts are sealed, then their regret is described on the Day of Judgment when the record of deeds is opened.

Those who take their desires as their god are led astray by Allah despite their knowledge; their hearing and hearts are sealed and their eyes are closed so they do not grasp the truth of the Qur'an.
They believe life exists only in this world and demand proof of the Hereafter by the resurrection of their dead ancestors.
The Messenger and the believers are commanded to affirm that it is Allah who gives life and brings death, and who will gather humanity on the Day of Judgment.
Each person receives a record of their deeds; the believers who do good are entered into Paradise, while those who are arrogant toward the Qur'an lose.
Those who mock the Qur'an and are deceived by this world are surrounded by the punishment they once mocked, abiding in the Fire forever with no chance to reform.

Verses 23-32 explain several things:

Those who obey their desires as their god will be led astray by Allah despite their knowledge. Allah also seals their hearing, hearts, and closes their eyes so they cannot hear, understand, or see the truth of the Qur'an. They believe life and death exist only in this world. When the Hereafter is explained to them, they demand proof by asking for their dead ancestors to be brought back to life.
To them, Allah commands the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the believers to make clear to the disbelievers that it is Allah who gives them life and brings them death, then they will be gathered on the Day of Judgment. Most people do not understand this.
Allah is the Owner of the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. On the Day of Judgment, the disbelievers will certainly lose. They will be on their knees, and each person will be given a record of their deeds and will receive the reward for what they did.
The Qur'an speaks the truth. Allah records all the deeds of humans. Those who believe and do good, Allah will enter into His Paradise. That is the real victory. Those who are disbelievers are arrogant toward the Qur'an, so they commit disbelief and sin. They are not certain about the Day of Judgment.

Verses 33-37 of Surah Al-Jatsiyah explain that on the Day of Judgment the disbelievers and polytheists will see the evil they did and be surrounded by the punishment they once mocked. Allah will forget them just as they forgot the Day of Meeting with Him. Their dwelling is the Fire and they will not be helped. That is the reward of those who mock the Qur'an and are deceived by the life of this world. They abide in the Fire forever and are not given a chance to evaluate themselves. That is the decision of Allah, to whom all praise belongs, Creator of the heavens, earth, and the universe. Owner of all greatness in the heavens and on the earth, and He is All-Powerful and All-Wise.
