Ali 'Imran 30–45
Salvation in the Hereafter is only through loving Allah by following His Messenger, then chosen families of Allah are mentioned: the vow of Imran's wife about Maryam and the prayer of Zakaria that is answered with the birth of Yahya.
Verses 30-32 explain that all humans in the Hereafter will witness all their deeds done in the world, good and bad. Later humans will regret. The only way to save oneself is by following all the teachings of the Messenger ﷺ as proof of love for Allah. Obeying Allah and His Messenger is the condition for being loved by Allah. If we turn away from Him, Allah will be angry.
Verses 33-37 explain that Allah has chosen His good servants, from Adam, Nuh, the family of Ibrahim, the family of Imran. They are the generations continuing the chosen Prophets and Messengers of Allah. One of the reasons is like what was experienced by Imran's wife. She was a barren wife. Then she prayed to Allah. If her prayer was answered, she made a vow to dedicate the child to be a person free from all forms of idolatry and the ignorant way of life that developed in his time and she would educate him to be a devoted worshipper. Allah answered her prayer, she became pregnant.
When she gave birth, it turned out to be a baby girl. She complained again to Allah not because she rejected the baby girl. In any case, men are not the same as women, said Imran's wife. She named the baby Maryam and asked Allah to protect her from Satan the cursed. Allah accepted her request with good and nurtured Maryam well too. Maryam was cared for by Zakaria in the prayer niche which is his place of worship. Every time Zakaria entered to visit her, he found food by her side. Zakaria was amazed. Maryam explained that the food came from Allah. Allah provides sustenance to whom He wills without calculation.
Verses 38-45 continue the story of Allah's chosen servants including Prophet Zakaria. Although he was very old and his wife was barren, he did not despair and prayed to his Lord Creator, Allah the Exalted, to grant him a good child and descendants. Through the angels, Allah conveyed good news to him of the birth of Yahya. Allah made Yahya a prophet, a leader, able to control his desires, righteous and confirming the coming of Prophet Isa. As a human, Zakaria was shocked that he could have a child when old from a barren wife as well. Then the angels answered: Do not be surprised. Allah is able to do what He wills. Zakaria asked Allah for a sign that he would get a child. Allah explained that Zakaria would not be able to speak for three days except with gestures and commanded him to remember Allah much and glorify Him in the morning and evening.
Likewise with Maryam. Allah protected her and chose her among the women of the worlds, because she was an obedient woman and devoted to worship. All of that is a past event that Allah told to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Yet the Prophet ﷺ was born long after Prophet Zakaria, Yahya and Isa. Through the angels, Allah announced good news to Maryam of the birth of Isa who would be a figure in this world and the Hereafter and is among those close to Allah.
