Qaf 1–35
Disbelievers' amazement at resurrection after death is answered through the strong heavens, the spread earth, and rain that revives dead land, then the journey of each person to reckoning is described.
Verse 1 of Surah Qaf begins with one Arabic letter, namely Qaf. In the Qur'an there are 29 surahs that begin with letters or combinations of letters like this. None knows their meaning except Allah alone. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) never explained their purpose. Likewise, the Companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), to whom the Qur'an was first revealed, never explained what they mean. For this reason, the majority of scholars do not dare to interpret them. They only say: Allah alone knows their meaning.
Verses 1-15 explain that Allah swears by the Noble Qur'an. The disbelievers are perplexed in understanding the warning of the Hereafter conveyed by Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Their minds cannot understand that those who have died will be brought back to life. Allah certainly knows well the bodies of humans destroyed by earth in the grave, because everything is written in His record book.
Why do the disbelievers reject the truth of the Qur'an? To prove its truth can be done by studying Allah's creation of the strong structure of the heavens, the spread earth, mountains as stakes of the earth, and vegetation that is beautifully paired. All of this can open eyes and lessons for humans who turn to Allah. Blessed rainwater causes the growth of various lush trees and the process from seed to harvest. The towering date palm with layers of branches, as provision for humans. Allah revives dead earth with rainwater. Likewise is the process of resurrection of humans who have died. Before the disbelievers of Mecca, there were already the 'Ad, Pharaoh, the people of Lot, the Inhabitants of the Wood, and Tubba' who rejected Allah's messengers. So Allah destroyed them. Allah is not tired in the least in taking care of creation. Only disbelievers doubt the resurrection.
Verses 16-35 explain that Allah is All-Powerful and All-Knowing. Through His Messengers, Allah explains His scenario toward humans. To establish justice, Allah assigns two angels to record all human deeds and words.
Every human being who lives will certainly experience the throes of death and the day of reckoning (Day of Judgment). Every human will be present with one accompanying angel and another as a witness. Allah shows the Fire to the disbelievers so their eyes are wide with fear. Then Allah commands the guardians of the Fire to throw all obstinate disbelievers into the Hell Fire. They prevented people from doing good, went beyond bounds, doubted the Hereafter, and worshipped other gods alongside Allah. At that time, the devil who misled them disassociates himself and does not acknowledge his deception toward them. There is no excuse for them to argue, because Allah warned them of the Hereafter through His Messengers. Both the misguider and the misguided enter the Fire.
As for those who are God-conscious, Allah enters them into Paradise, as a promise for His servants who turn to Him and preserve trusts, fear Allah, and die in a state of repentance. They abide in it and receive all they desire.
