Az-Zariyat 31–60
A series of nations that were destroyed are presented one by one, then it is affirmed that all Messengers are accused with similar accusations and that the jinn and mankind are created to worship.
Verses 31-37 continue the story of the previous angels. Allah sent them to destroy the people of Lut by sending a rain of hot stones. Each stone was already marked for each of those who transgressed Allah's system. They were all destroyed, except Lut and his family. The destruction of the people of Lut is proof of Allah's power for those who fear the punishment of Hell.
Verses 38-40 explain the arrogance of Pharaoh and his leaders and the accusation of Messenger Musa of sorcery. Allah punished them by drowning in the Red Sea. Verses 41-42 relate to Allah's punishment of the people of 'Ad with strong wind that destroyed their land and people turning them to dust. Verses 43-45 relate to Allah's punishment of the people of Thamud with terrible lightning so they died in heaps. Verse 46 relates to Allah's prior punishment of the people of Nuh due to their disobedience to Allah.
Verses 47-51 explain some proofs of Allah's power, such as creating the firm heaven, the spread earth and all His creatures in pairs. Because of this, we have no choice but to hasten to Him and never associate partners with Him. Associating partners with Allah will only harm ourselves. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) has given warning regarding this matter.
Verses 52-60 explain that Allah comforts Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with the story of previous nations. Allah explains that not only Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is accused of sorcery or madness, but all previous Messengers were also accused with the same accusation, as if they bequeathed it to each other between generations, or they were indeed a very disobedient people. Allah commands the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) not to heed the mockery of the disbelieving Quraysh and to continue warning mankind of Allah's punishment, for the warning benefits the believers. Allah also explains that the mission of the creation of the jinn and mankind is to worship Him. Allah does not need them; rather, they are the ones who need Him, for He is the All-Provider and the All-Powerful. Everyone who disobeys Allah and His Messenger will certainly receive punishment from Allah like the previous nations. All disbelievers in the Hereafter will be entered into Hell.
