Day 306 · Surah Al-Qamar Verses 28-55

Al-Qamar 28–55

The she-camel that is slaughtered brings lightning that kills the people of Thamud, followed by the destruction of the people of Lut and Pharaoh, then a warning that all deeds, great and small, are recorded.

• The people of Thamud were commanded to leave the she-camel alive, but they seized and slaughtered it, then terrible lightning made them die like withered, decayed grass.
• The people of Lut were destroyed by a stone wind in the morning, while Lut and his family were saved at dawn as a blessing for those who give thanks.
• They attempted to seduce Lut to hand over his guests, so their eyes were blinded immediately before a greater punishment came.
• Pharaoh and his leaders were punished for denying Allah, the Messenger, and His revelation, and the Quraysh are warned they will suffer the same fate if they continue to reject.
• All deeds, great and small, are recorded, and the God-conscious are placed in Paradise with rivers flowing through it in an honored position.

Verses 28-32 continue the previous verses regarding the disbelief of the people of Prophet Saleh. Allah commanded them to leave the she-camel alive. Instead, they seized and slaughtered it. Allah immediately sent punishment upon them with terrible lightning so they died like withered, decayed grass. Allah has made the Qur'an easy for those who wish to take it as a lesson.

Verses 33-40 explain how Allah punished the people of Lut who denied Him. Allah destroyed them with a stone wind and saved Lut along with his family at dawn as a blessing from Allah for those who give thanks. Prophet Lut had already warned them of this punishment, but they rejected it. They even tried to seduce Lut to hand over the angels who visited him in the form of handsome men. At that moment Allah blinded their eyes so they could feel His punishment. Then Allah sent upon them a terrible punishment in the morning so they felt the severity of Allah's punishment. Indeed Allah has made the Qur'an easy for those who wish to take it as a lesson.

Verses 41-49 explain that Allah punished Pharaoh and his leaders because they denied Allah, the Messenger and His revelation. The disbelieving Quraysh will also experience the same fate if they do not believe. They will be defeated. In the Hereafter they will experience even worse fate. They will be dragged and cast into Hell. Indeed Allah created everything with great precision.

Verses 50-55 of Surah Al-Qamar explain that when Allah wills something it certainly happens in the blink of an eye. The destruction of the disbelieving nations of old should serve as a lesson for the nation of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). All our deeds, great and small, are recorded by Allah in His Book of Records. The God-conscious will enter Paradise with rivers flowing underneath and sit in an honored place beside Allah; the Mighty King and All-Powerful.
