Day 309 · Surah Al-Waqiah Verses 1-50

Al-Waqi'ah 1–50

When the entire universe is destroyed, mankind is divided into three groups: those foremost in faith, the People of the Right, and the People of the Left, and each is described their place of return.

• On the day of the destruction of the universe mankind is divided into three: the People of the Right, the People of the Left, and the pioneers who are foremost in faith and righteous deeds.
• The pioneers are near to Allah in the Garden of Bliss, mostly from the first generation of Islam, reclining on couches embroidered with gold facing one another.
• They are served by eternal youths, choosing for themselves fruits and the meat of birds that they desire, and hearing only words of peace besides no vain talk.
• The People of the Right are among thornless lote trees, banana trees in rows, extensive shade, water falls, and fruits that never cease and none are forbidden.
• The People of the Left are in hot wind, boiling water, and the shade of black smoke, because they lived luxuriously, committed great sins, and denied the Day of Rising.

Verses 1-16 of Surah Al-Waqiah explain that when the earth, heaven, mountains and all this universe Allah destroys, mankind will be either humiliated or honored. On that day mankind is divided into three groups. The People of the Right, the People of the Left and the pioneers (Sabiqun) in faith and righteous deeds. Two groups (the People of the Right and the pioneers) will enter Paradise and one group, the People of the Left, will enter Hell.

The pioneers are those near to Allah in the Garden of Bliss. The majority of them are from the first generation of Islam and the rest from generations after them. They recline on couches embroidered with gold facing one another.

Verses 17-26 continue the condition of the pioneers in faith and righteous deeds. They are surrounded by servants of eternal young men who stay with them, while carrying cups, pitchers and glasses filled with the wine of Paradise that does not cause dizziness or intoxication, any fruits they choose, the meat of birds they desire. For them are maidens with keen eyes, like well-preserved pearls. Such is the reward of the righteous deeds they did. They no longer hear vain talk nor talk of sin. What they hear is the word of peace and greetings.

Verses 27-40 explain the condition of the People of the Right. They are among thornless lote trees, banana trees arranged neatly, extensive shade spread wide, water falls, abundant fruits, never-ending and none are forbidden, thick mattresses upon which are their wives whom Allah created anew as virgins full of love and equal in age with young girls. All of this is for the People of the Right. This group has many from the first generation of Islam and many also from the following generation until the end of time.

Verses 41-50 explain the tragic fate of the People of the Left. They are in hot wind, boiling water, enveloped in black smoke, with not the slightest cool and pleasant air. They lived luxuriously in the world, committed great sins, did not believe in the Day of Rising. Yet they and their ancestors will be gathered on the Day of Assembly.
