Day 313 · Surah Al-Hadid Verses 19-24

Al-Hadid 19–24

Worldly life is likened to plants that amaze the farmer then yellows and perishes, while misfortune and provision are already written from the beginning so mankind neither sinks in sorrow nor becomes proud.

• Those who truly believe in Allah and His Messengers obtain the position of the truthful and witnesses, with reward and light beside their Lord.
• Worldly life is called a game, mockery, adornment, boasting, and competing to multiply wealth and children.
• The parable of it is rain that grows plants until amazing the farmer, then the plants dry, yellow, and perish.
• Forgiveness and Paradise whose vastness is like the heaven and earth are prepared for those who believe, and this is called Allah's greatest blessing.
• Every misfortune and provision is already written before it happens, so mankind does not grieve over what is lost and does not boast over what is gained.

Verse 19 explains that those who truly believe in Allah and His Messengers attain the rank before Allah as the truthful and witnesses. In the Hereafter they will have reward and light. Whereas those who disbelieve in Allah and reject Allah's revelation will become the inhabitants of Hell.

Verses 20-21 explain the reality of worldly life is a game, mockery, adornment, boasting and competing to increase wealth and children. Exactly like rain that makes the farmers amazed at their plants. Suddenly the plants become dry then yellow so they perish. The punishment of the Hereafter is far more terrible than that. Allah's forgiveness and pleasure is also extraordinary. Therefore, be careful not to be deceived by the pleasures of this world which are insignificant compared to Paradise. Allah's forgiveness and His Paradise must be pursued continuously and with all one's strength. Who would not be interested? The vastness of Paradise is like the vastness of the heaven and earth. It is specially prepared for those who believe in Allah and His Messengers or those who are God-conscious to Him. That is Allah's blessing given to those He wills. Indeed Allah has immense blessings.

Verses 22-24 explain that every misfortune that befalls the earth and mankind is already written in Allah's Book in the Preserved Tablet long before the misfortune occurs. Such a thing is easy for Allah. Therefore, do not grieve over wealth lost from us and do not be proud because of wealth that Allah has given us. Indeed Allah does not like anyone arrogant and boastful.

Indeed those who are arrogant and boastful are usually miserly and encourage others to be miserly too. Whoever turns away from Allah and does not wish to spend in His way, then indeed Allah is Rich and Praiseworthy.
