Al-Qalam 1–52

The accusation of madness against the Prophet is refuted with an oath and praise of his noble character, then those who oppose the message are likened to an owner of an orchard who is ungrateful until his orchard is destroyed.

• The Prophet is affirmed to not be mad, receives an unending reward, and has a noble character, while who is misguided and who is guided will later be seen.
• In preaching, one is forbidden to follow the wishes of those who disparage, provoke, and obstruct, even if they are wealthy and have many followers and claim the Qur'an is a fable.
• The disbelievers of Mecca are likened to an owner of an orchard who is ungrateful and then his orchard is destroyed so he repents after that.
• The fate of the God-conscious person who receives the Garden is not the same as the sinner who is punished, and the gods they worship are of no use on the Day of Judgment.
• The Prophet is commanded to focus on preaching, be patient, and not heed the slander, because Allah is surely monitoring and will punish them.

Verses 1-15 of Surah Al-Qalam explain that Allah swears that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is not mad. He receives an unending reward and has a noble character, namely the character of the Qur'an. One day it will be known who is misguided and who is guided by Allah. In preaching, one must not follow the wishes of those who oppose, disparage, provoke, obstruct preaching and have other bad characteristics, even if they have wealth and many followers. They always belittle and reject the content of the Qur'an. In fact, they accuse the Qur'an of being a book of fables.

Verses 16-33 continue the previous verse regarding the disbelievers of Mecca who reject the message of Islam. Their likeness is exactly like the owner of an orchard who is ungrateful. After Allah destroys it, he repents. Similarly, the residents of Mecca, after Islam becomes strong, they only then realize its greatness and embrace Islam in droves.

Verses 34-42 explain that those who are conscious of Allah will receive the Garden from Him. Therefore, the fate of the believer who is conscious is not the same as the sinners and those who reject Allah. They will be punished on the Day of Judgment. At that time, regret will not help. The disbelievers and sinners always say their opinions and conduct are correct, even though not supported by strong arguments. The gods they worship will be of no use on the Day of Judgment.

Verses 43-52 continue the previous verse. The disbelievers on the Day of Judgment will be powerless, because in the world they would not submit to Allah. Therefore, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is commanded by Allah to focus on preaching and be patient in carrying it out and not heed their slander. Allah is surely monitoring and will punish them.
