Al-Gasyiyah 1–26, Al-Fajr 1–30

Two types of faces on the Day of Judgment are compared, the camel and the mountain are presented as subjects of study, then the misconception of mankind is exposed: thinking abundance of provision means honor.

The face covered with dust enters Hellfire with a drink of boiling hot water and food from a thorny tree that only increases hunger, because his deeds were not accepted due to associating partners with Allah.
The face that is radiant is in a high Paradise without idle talk, with flowing springs, high couches, ready glasses, arranged pillows, and spread carpets.
Mankind is asked to consider how the camel is created, the sky is raised, the mountains are established, and the earth is spread, for the task of the Messenger and the scholars who continue his work is to convey the warning, not to force.
The 'Ad, Iram, Thamud, and Pharaoh were destroyed because they implemented the system of disbelief and committed much corruption on earth.
Mankind thinks abundance of provision means they are honored and scarcity of provision means they are humiliated, yet the matter is that they are stingy, do not honor orphans, and love wealth greatly.

Verses 1-26 of Surah Al-Ghasyiyah explain several matters:

On the Day of Judgment mankind is divided into two groups. First, those whose faces are covered with darkness, downcast and sad, and whose deeds in this world were not accepted because they associated partners with Allah. He enters the fire of Hellfire which is extremely hot, given to drink boiling hot water, food from a thorny tree that only adds hunger. Second, those whose faces are radiant because their deeds of worship were accepted. He is in a high Paradise, hearing no idle talk, with springs flowing ceaselessly, high couches, ready glasses, arranged pillows and carpets spread everywhere.
So that one can believe in the truth of the afterlife, Allah commands us to examine how the camel He created, the sky He raised, the mountains He established and the earth He spread. All of this is sufficient proof that Allah is the Creator of the universe and everything in it. He has created the afterlife as the place to which mankind returns. Therefore, the task of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the scholars who continue his work is to convey the warning and the Qur'an, not to force. Those who disbelieve will Allah punish with a tremendous punishment. To Him they are returned and He will judge them.

Verses 1-14 of Surah Al-Fajr explain that Allah swears by the time of dawn and others to affirm that He destroyed the 'Ad, Iram, Thamud and Pharaoh because they implemented the system of disbelief in their lands and committed much corruption on the face of the earth. Surely Allah is always watching.

Verses 15-20 explain that among the characteristics of mankind is that when tested with abundance of provision they think Allah honors them. When tested with scarcity of provision they think Allah humiliates them. In reality they are stingy, unwilling to honor orphans, spur each other on in feeding the poor, seize inherited wealth by any means and love wealth greatly.

Verses 21-23 explain that when the earth is shaken, Allah judges between mankind and the angels are arrayed before Allah and Hellfire is before the eyes, mankind will become aware. Yet by then it is too late.

Verses 24-30 of Surah Al-Fajr continue the previous verse regarding mankind's awareness at the Day of Judgment. They regret themselves — why did they not believe and do righteous deeds in this world? On that Day Allah's punishment is most terrible. But the believers who did righteous deeds are told: O you peaceful soul, return to your Lord the Creator. Enter among My righteous servants and enter My Paradise. This call is also conveyed to them when facing the agony of death.
