Al-Balad 1–20, Asy-Syams 1–15

Mankind is given two eyes, a tongue, two lips, and two paths of good and evil, then it is affirmed that success belongs to those who purify themselves.

• Many people think they are free to spend their wealth without being asked where it came from and where it was spent.
• The group that is pleasing to Allah are those who believe, free slaves, feed orphans of their relatives and the poor when hungry, and advise each other with patience.
• The path of life is only two, transgression and obedience; the successful are those who purify themselves and the failed are those who corrupt themselves with sin.
• The Thamud were destroyed utterly because they disobeyed Allah's commands and slaughtered the she-camel that was forbidden to be touched.
• Those who spend in charity, fear Allah, and believe in recompense are made easy toward the path of good, while the stingy and those who deny it are made easy toward the path of transgression.

Verses 1-20 of Surah Al-Balad explain that Allah swears by the city of Mecca that He created mankind perfect. Yet many people think they are free to spend their wealth and will not be questioned where it came from and where it was spent. Rather, Allah has given them two eyes, a tongue, two lips and two paths; good and evil.

Those who believe, free slaves, feed the hungry, orphans of their relatives and the poor, and advise each other with patience and compassion are the group that is pleasing to Allah. Meanwhile, those who reject the Qur'an are the group displeased by Allah and will enter Hellfire.

Verses 1-15 of Surah Asy-Syams explain that Allah swears by the sun, the moon, day, night, sky, earth and the human soul that inclines toward good (the natural disposition), that the path of life is two; transgression and obedience. The successful are those who manage to purify themselves from desire. The failed are those who corrupt themselves with sin. Before us, Allah destroyed the Thamud because they were unable to purify themselves from desire. Finally they disobeyed Allah's commands and slaughtered the she-camel that Allah forbade them to touch. Then Allah destroyed them so that they were leveled to the ground.

Verses 1-14 of Surah Al-Lail explain that Allah swears by the night, the day, male and female that human endeavor is of two kinds; good and bad. Those who give a portion of their wealth in the way of Allah, fear Allah and believe in recompense and Paradise will be made easy by Allah toward the path of good, piety and Paradise. As for those who are stingy, haughty to Allah, deny recompense and Paradise, Allah will make easy for them the path of transgression, disbelief and Hellfire. Yet wealth will not be useful when facing death. Allah has already explained the lawful, the forbidden, guidance and error. This world and the afterlife belong to Allah and remind us of the blazing Hellfire.
