An-Nasr 1–3, Al-Lahab 1–5
The great victory and conquest of Mecca are welcomed not with celebration but with glorification, praise, and seeking forgiveness, while Abu Lahab who fiercely opposed the call is declared destroyed.
Verses 1-3 of Surah An-Nashr explain that when the great victory of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions and the conquest of the city of Mecca (the Opening of Mecca) occurred in the eighth year of the Hijra, the people of Mecca and its surroundings entered Islam in droves. Allah commands the Muslim nation to welcome this great victory and conquest by glorifying Allah, praising Allah and seeking His forgiveness as a sign of gratitude for His blessings.
Verses 1-5 of Surah Al-Masad explain that Allah establishes destruction upon Abu Lahab because he fiercely opposed the call of Tawhid of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). His wealth and efforts will not be of benefit to him and will not be able to help him at all from the punishment of Allah. He will enter Hellfire whose fire blazes in the afterlife. His wife who also opposed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and His call will also suffer the same fate. This story of Abu Lahab is a lesson for us that everyone who fiercely opposes Islam will receive punishment from Allah in this world and in the afterlife with even more severe punishment.
