Ali 'Imran 181–194

The insolent accusations of the Medina Jews are refuted, five great truths about death and the deception of this world are presented, then concluded with the characteristics of people of sound mind who remember Allah and reflect on the creation of the universe.

• The Medina Jews accuse Allah of needing them and stipulate a miracle of a sacrifice consumed by fire, then answered with the reality that they themselves killed the prophets.
• Five great truths are mentioned: all living beings will surely die, perfect recompense is in the Hereafter, true success is being saved from the Fire, this world is only deceptive pleasure, and believers will surely be tested.
• Trials may be in wealth, soul, and harassment from the People of the Scripture and polytheists, and the key is patience and God-consciousness.
• The People of the Scripture deny their promise to explain the contents of the Scripture, instead hide it and are proud of praise for what they did not do.
• People of sound mind remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying down, reflect on the creation of the heavens and earth and the alternation of night and day, then repent and ask to die with the righteous.

Verses 181-185 describe the behavior of the Medina Jews toward Allah and the Messenger Muhammad. They accuse Allah of needing them. Their evil words and deeds will be repaid by Allah with the Fire of Hell. They fabricate about Allah and say that Allah promised them not to believe in a messenger until tested with a sacrifice. If fire comes to the sacrifice and burns it, then he is a messenger sent by Allah. This is clearly a lie. Allah commands the Messenger to answer: Have not many messengers come to you with various signs? Why did you kill them?

As for verses 185 and 186, they explain 5 great truths.

1. Every living being will surely die.
2. Perfect recompense is in the Hereafter.
3. True success is when in the Hereafter one is saved from the Fire and entered into paradise.
4. All of this worldly life is nothing but a small and deceptive pleasure.
5. In living as a believer, Allah will surely test you. The trial may concern wealth, soul, and harassment from the People of the Scripture and polytheists. The key to success in facing these trials is patience and God-consciousness toward Allah.

These five great truths are laws of Allah that apply throughout all ages. May Allah grant us the qualities of patience and reliance.

Verses 187-189 present some characteristics of the People of the Scripture such as denying their covenant with Allah concerning the obligation to explain all the contents of the Scripture and the prohibition of hiding it. What actually happens is the opposite and they sell lies to society. They are also proud of their falsehood and proud of receiving praise for what they did not do. They will not escape the punishment of Allah in the Hereafter. For the control of this world and the Hereafter is in the hands of Allah and He has power over all things.

Verses 190-194 describe the characteristics of people who think and use sound reason. Their characteristics are:

1. Remember Allah in all conditions; standing, sitting, and lying down, so that 24 hours their life is full of remembrance of Allah.
2. The way is by practicing Islamic teachings in every step and activity of their life day and night.
3. Studying Allah's system in the creation of the universe, the alternation of night and day, and including the creation of man, until they conclude that all Allah's creation is very systematic.
4. Affirming the Oneness of Allah, avoiding beliefs, words and deeds that lead to the Fire, responding to the call of faith in Allah.

Repent to Allah, ask for their sins to be erased, ask to die with the righteous, ask for what Allah has promised them, and hope not to be humiliated by Allah on the Day of Judgement, and are certain that Allah will surely fulfill His promises.
