Al-An'am 19–35
A closed heart causes mankind to reject the truth, and in the hereafter they still swear that they did not associate partners with Allah, and the Prophet is comforted because the rejection is actually directed at the verses of Allah.
Verses 19-27 explain that a blind eye, a deaf ear and a closed heart are factors causing mankind to deny Allah, His oneness and not accepting the system of life Allah created for them in the Qur'an. To the extent that Allah commands the Prophet to invite them to think scientifically about the evidence of Allah's existence to avoid associating partners with Him (polytheism).
The People of the Scripture know the Messenger well like they know their children. They lose because they reject the Messenger. Indeed they are very unjust in fabricating lies about Allah and rejecting the Qur'an.
Another factor that can open the dullness of man's mind and heart so that he can abandon polytheism and replace it with monotheism is to believe in the dread of the Day of Judgment and hell. Allah will question the gods taken as partners with Him. Then they swear in the name of Allah that they did not associate partners with Him.
In the hereafter they will dare to lie as they did lies in the world about Allah. Therefore, Allah seals their hearts and closes their ears so they cannot understand the Qur'an. Even if they see all the miracles, they will not believe and even accuse the Qur'an of being tales. They prevent others from the Qur'an and keep themselves from it. Such an attitude ruins themselves. They will later regret and wish to be returned to the world to believe.
Verses 28-32 continue the previous verse. If Allah gave them a chance to return to the world, they would still deny. The reason is their love of worldly life and disbelief in the hereafter. Truly, those who deny the hereafter are losers. When the Day of Judgment comes, they will regret the evils and injustices they have done. Worldly life is nothing but play and amusement. The life of the hereafter, that is better for the God-conscious. Why can they not understand this.
Verses 32-35 explain how sad the Messenger was because of the denial and opposition of people to the concepts and systems of truth he brought, until Allah comforted him. Allah says: 'We surely know that you are sad over what they say and accuse you of. Actually they do not deny you, but those who associate partners with Allah and are wrongdoers reject My verses (the Qur'an).' Allah continues, truly the messengers before you were also denied. Yet they endured such denial, and they were even hurt, until We brought help to them. This is Our Sunnah (system). And the news of the messengers before you has already been conveyed to you.'
The Prophet Muhammad felt how heavy the aversion and opposition of people to Islam was. Yet that is the law of Allah in the struggle of calling to Islam. The message of Islam must be spread and must not stop. Avoiding or stopping is foolishness. Through the call to Islam, mankind are divided into two: those who think will be able to accept it and those who are wrongdoers will not understand and will reject it.
