Al-An'am 158–165
The closing of the surah affirms that faith coming at the time of the death rattle is no longer useful, one good deed is rewarded tenfold, and the difference in the ranks of humans is a test.
Verses 158-165 continue to explain the hardness of the polytheists' rebellion against the Messenger ﷺ and the Qur'an. Do they believe waiting for the agony of death or the destruction of the universe? Remember, when the soul is at the throat or the Day of Judgement comes, confession and faith in Allah, His Messenger and His Book will no longer be useful. Even faith that does not produce righteous deeds is also not beneficial.
Verse 160 explains the system of reward (recompense) and punishment. One good deed based on faith and sincerity is rewarded tenfold. While one evil deed is rewarded in kind. There is no injustice whatsoever in Allah's system.
Allah commands the Messenger ﷺ to state to his people that he has been given guidance to a straight way of life, which is the religion (system of life) in accordance with the religion of Ibrahim which is straight, or fitrah (the religion of Tawhid). The religion of Tawhid is devoting all prayer, worship, life and death to Allah alone, not associating any partner with Him in any way.
It is not fitting that anyone other than Allah should be a god for He cannot create anything. Allah has made every action the responsibility of the one who performs it. Humans will see their deeds in the Hereafter. Allah is also the One who enables humans to build the earth from generation to generation. He also raises the rank of some humans above others as a test of the favours bestowed by Allah. Allah is Swift in punishment, yet He is the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful.
