Day 94 · Surah Al-Anfal Verses 34-40

Al-Anfal 34–40

The Mecca disbelievers who prevented the believers from worshipping at the Sacred Mosque and spent wealth to prevent people from Allah's way are given an ultimatum to stop, and if they stop and enter Islam their sins are forgiven.

• They prevented the believers from the Sacred Mosque, while their own worship around the Kaaba was only whistling and clapping.
• Throughout history the disbelievers spend wealth to prevent people from Allah's way, but it ends in regret and defeat.
• Their entry into the Fire is explained as Allah's way of separating the evil group from the good.
• The Prophet is commanded to convey an ultimatum: stop hostility and enter Islam means forgiveness, while persisting means the decree that befell previous disobedient peoples will apply.
• Fighting is commanded so that harm to Allah, the Messenger, and the believers stops, and the strength of Quraish indeed was broken from the Battle of Badr.

Verses 34-40 still explain the Messenger's struggle in facing various obstacles from the Mecca disbelievers. Allah punishes them because they prevented the believers from worshipping at the Sacred Mosque. Their prayer around the Kaaba was nothing but whistling and clapping. They will feel severe punishment because of their disbelief.

Facts on the ground throughout history show that the disbelievers spend their wealth to prevent people from Allah's way. Ultimately they will regret and be defeated, then they will all be gathered in the Hellfire.

The disbelievers are admitted to the Fire because Allah wants to separate the evil group from the good. The evil group Allah admits to the Fire, piled up among them. Indeed, they are the losers.

Allah asks Prophet Muhammad to give an ultimatum to the disbelievers to stop fighting the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), Islam, and the believers. If they stop and enter Islam, then Allah will forgive their sins. If they persist in fighting the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), the Qur'an, Islam, and the Muslim community, then Allah will apply His system as happened to the disobedient peoples of the past.

For this reason, Allah commands the Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and the believers to fight the disbelievers so that harm to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers stops and so that the faith (way of life) of humanity is entirely returned to Allah's religion, Islam. If the disbelievers stop fighting the Muslims, then Allah sees what has been and what will happen. However, if they persist in fighting Allah, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the believers, know that indeed Allah is the Protector of the believers. Allah is the Best Protector and Helper.

Allah proves His promise. The might of the disbelieving Quraish was broken at the Battle of Badr which Allah relates in this surah Al-Anfal. From that time on, the disbelieving Quraish became weak and humiliated.
