Day 96 · Surah Al-Anfal Verses 53-69

Al-Anfal 53–69

Blessings are not withdrawn before a people themselves rebel, then taught the way to deal with those who violate treaties, the obligation to prepare strength, willingness for peace, and prohibition against fighting for worldly interests.

Blessings upon a people are not withdrawn until they themselves rebel, as happened with the family of Pharaoh and the disbelievers before them who were destroyed for their injustice.
If there is strong indication of betrayal, the treaty is returned openly and honestly, because Allah hates betrayal.
The Muslims are commanded to prepare strength as much as possible to terrify the enemy, and the spirit of spending in charity is called one of the pillars of Islam's establishment.
If the opposing side inclines toward peace, the Muslims must also incline toward peace, with trust in Allah as the main capital.
The believers who have faith and patience are promised manifold victory over the enemy, and fighting with the motive of spoils or ransom is forbidden.

Verses 53-61 continue the previous verses regarding typical arrogant people toward Allah and His Messengers and teach Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his community several following facts:

Allah will not withdraw the blessings He has given to a people until they themselves rebel against Him like the family of Pharaoh and the disbelievers before them did. Then Allah destroyed them because they were unjust.
Indeed, the worst of creatures in the sight of Allah are those who disbelieve and refuse to believe and affirm His oneness.
Allah commands the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his community to fight the disbelievers who often break their covenants along with those behind them so they may receive a lesson.
Allah teaches the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his community to return treaties to those who show strong indication of betrayal, but honestly and openly. Because Allah hates those who betray.
The believers must be certain that the disbelievers will not escape Allah's punishment and they will not be able to weaken His Will at all.
Allah teaches the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his community to prepare military strength and equipment as much as possible that can terrify the enemies of Allah, enemies of the believers, and other powers they do not know; only Allah knows them.
The spirit of spending in the way of Allah is one of the pillars of the establishment of Islam and the existence of the Muslim community.
If the enemy of Islam inclines toward peace, then the Muslim community must also incline toward peace. While trust in Allah is the main capital for the believers to gain Allah's attention and help. Allah is the All-Hearing and the All-Knowing.

Verses 62-69 continue the previous verses regarding the betrayal of the disbelievers who had treaties with the believers. For this reason, Allah explains the following four matters:

There is no need to worry, just entrust it to Allah. Allah alone is sufficient as Protector.
Allah will certainly strengthen the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and Islam through His help and the support of believers whose hearts Allah has bonded together because of love for Him and not for material motives. This happens because of Allah's Might and Wisdom.
Allah commands the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the leaders of the community to motivate the believers to fight against their enemies who fight them, such as the disbelieving Quraish and the like. If they truly believe and are patient, then Allah guarantees them victory by multiplying their strength. If they are 20 they will defeat 200 enemies. If they are 100 they will defeat 1,000 enemies. This is because the disbelievers are fearful because they do not understand Allah. Even in minimal and weak circumstances, Allah makes the strength of the patient believers such that 100 will defeat 200 enemies and 1,000 will defeat 2,000 enemies.
Allah forbids the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) from fighting with worldly motives such as spoils, ransom of prisoners, and the like. The correct motive is to establish the glory of Islam in the world and achieve victory in the Hereafter, namely paradise. Nevertheless, Allah makes the spoils lawful and good provision as long as it is based on God-consciousness. Allah is the All-Forgiving and the All-Merciful.
