22. Al-Khafid — The Abaser
These two names are the names of Allah reported in khabar (hadith); both are among the attributes of fi'il of Allah, namely raising whom He wills by granting His blessings, and lowering whom He wills from his rank through His punishment.
It is said that Al-Khafidh is the Being who lowers His enemies through humiliation, and Ar-Rafi' is the Being who raises His friends with victory.
There is also an opinion that Al-Khafidh is the Being who lowers the disbelievers through misfortune, and raises the believers with happiness. Raising His friends by bringing them close to Him and lowering His enemies by removing them from Him.
Whoever has been purified in his mushahadah from superstition and freed his will from the vile passions, then he has been raised by Allah to the rank of the angels of muqarrabin. And whoever is limited in his mushahadah to only what can be sensed and his will to the lusts also possessed by animals, then a sign that he has been lowered by Allah to the lowest level. And all this cannot be done except by Allah the Almighty; only He has the power to lower and raise.
Among the conditions for a servant's good fortune from this name is that he raises the truth and lowers falsehood. That is by helping (supporting) the truth and opposing falsehood. Antagonizing the enemies of Allah to lower them, and helping the friends of Allah to raise them.
Its Efficacy Whoever reads Al-Khafidh five hundred times, then all his needs will be fulfilled by Allah. And whoever reads Ar-Rafi' seventy times, then he will surely be saved from the disturbance of oppressive people.
