5. As-Salam — The Source of Peace
As Salam means: the One Who is free from all deficiency, or the One Who saves the believers from punishment, or the One Who leads them into Paradise. In other words, He is the One free from every flaw (blemish), whose attributes are free from deficiency, and whose acts are free from evil directed at Himself.
Embodying the character of ism this makes a believer guard his tongue and his hands from harming others.
The benefit is Ism this functions to ward off calamity and illness, so that if it is recited over someone who is suffering from sickness one hundred and twenty-one times, by Allah's grace the illness will be cured as long as his appointed time has not yet come.
Our teacher, Tajul-'Arifin asy-Syarqawi, said: "If ism it is recited one hundred and thirty-six times in a voice loud enough to be heard by the sick person, while raising the hands above the head of the sick person, insha Allah that sick person will be cured by the permission of Allah SWT.
