50. Ash Shahid — The All-Witnessing
Ism this derives from the word asy-syuhud, meaning "present," or the One who knows about all creation and is present with it at every time and place.
Allah SWT says:
... Allah is with you wherever you are ... (QS Al Hadid: 4)
And His words:
... And Allah is Witness over all things.(QS Al Mujadilah: 6)
Both of these meanings also return to knowledge with a specific addition. For Allah SWT knows the unseen and the manifest — the unseen is what is hidden (batin), and the manifest is what is outward (lahir). If He is considered only in terms of knowledge, then He is Al Alim. If the unseen and hidden matters are added, then He is Al Khabir. If the manifest matters are added, then He is Asy Syahid. That is why Allah SWT will witness creation on the Day of Resurrection with what He knows and witnesses of them. The discussion of this ism is close to the discussion of the ism Al Alim and Al Khabir, both of which have been explained in the preceding section.
To embody this ism requires you to turn your face to none but Him, to seek help from none but Him, and to feel content with His knowledge in all things. Its Benefits Ism this has the benefit of bringing the one who does dhikr with it back to truth from falsehood.
