72. Al-Mu’akhir — The One Who Delays
Al Muqaddim is the One who brings some things forward before others in existence, such as bringing forward causes before effects. Or in honour and closeness, such as bringing forward the prophets and the righteous ahead of others. Or in terms of place, such as bringing forward one period or time ahead of another, as has been determined in His eternal wisdom.
He is Allah SWT who brings forward and delays; He brings forward for His servants everything they need to preserve their existence and delays them until their appointed terms. Or, He brings forward whomever He wills in this world and the hereafter by granting them high rank, and He is also the One who delays whomever He wills. And Allah SWT is fully capable of doing all that.
To embody both of these ism requires you to remain between fear and hope, and to always be watchful. For the Messenger of Allah saw. himself, who had been forgiven by Allah for every fault, never once neglected worship of his Lord, so that when someone asked him, "Has your Lord not forgiven you every fault?" He replied: "Should I not then be a grateful servant?!"
Its Benefits Ism Al Muqaddim has the benefit of gaining strength in battle and being kept safe from that battle.
The benefit of the ism Al Mu'akhkhir is to keep oneself away from every evil deed. Whoever does much dhikr with it, Allah will surely open for him the door of repentance and success.
