Supplications for Newlyweds and the Wedding Night

This page collects supplications recommended to be spoken to newlyweds, on the wedding night, and during marital relations between husband and wife.

• The supplication for the bride and groom contains a plea for blessing and goodness for the newly married couple.
• There is also a supplication recommended for the groom to recite, containing a plea for the goodness of his spouse and protection from her bad side.
• The supplication before marital relations contains a plea that Satan be kept away from the husband and wife and from the offspring that will be granted, which, according to the hadith cited, is the reason the child born will not be disturbed by Satan.
• There is also a supplication recommended to be recited after the release of semen, asking that the result of the union become good offspring.

Supplication for the Bride and Groom

بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْكَمُاَ فِيْ خَيْرٍ.

Baarokalloohu laka wabaaroka ‘alaika wajama’a bainakumaa fii khoiir.

"May Allah bless you and grant blessings upon you, and gather the two of you (the bride and groom) together in goodness." (Narrated by the compilers of the Books of Sunan, except An-Nasa'i; see Sahih At-Tirmidhi 1/316)

Supplication for when one becomes a newlywed.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ، وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ

ALLAAHUMMA INNII AS'ALUKA KHOIROHAA WA KHOIRO MAA JABALTAHAA 'ALAIIH, WA-A'UUZHUBIKA MIN SYARRIHAA WASYARRI MAA JABALTAHAA 'ALAIIH

"O Allah, indeed I ask You for the goodness of this woman and the goodness of the nature You have shaped in her. And I seek refuge in You from her evil and the evil of the nature You have shaped in her."

Supplication for Newlyweds on the Wedding Night (marital relations)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُمَّ جَنِّبْنِى الشَّيْطَانَ وَجَنِّبِ الشَّيْطَانَ مَا رَزَقْتَنَا

BISMILLAH, ALLAHUMMA JANNIBNISY SYAITHAN WA JANNIBISY SYAITHANA MAA ROZAQTANAA

In the name of Allah, O Allah, keep Satan away from me, and keep him away from what You shall grant us (children, offspring).

This Wedding Night supplication is actually not reserved for newlyweds alone, but is also for all married couples whenever they are about to have marital relations; it is recommended to recite this supplication before doing so. Ibn Abbas said, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"If someone recites the following supplication before having relations with his wife: 'bismillah allahumma jannibnis syaithan wa jannibis syaithan ma razaqtana', and then a child is destined to result from that union, that child will never be harmed by Satan" (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim). It is generally customary for the family of a pregnant woman to invite neighbours to offer supplications for the expectant mother as well as for the foetus or baby in her womb, so that it stays healthy and safe until it is born.

Supplication upon the Release of Semen / Supplication After Ejaculation

What is meant by ejaculation or the release of semen is what occurs during marital relations between husband and wife. If semen has been released during relations, one should offer a supplication, namely asking Allah, the Exalted, that the nutfah (semen) that has been released be made into good offspring and/or a righteous child.

اَللّهُـــمَّ اجْعَــلْ نُطْفَتَــنَا ذُرّ ِيَّةً طَيِّبَةً

ALLAAHUMMAJ’AL NUTHFATANAA DZURRIYYATAN THOYYI- BATAN

O Allah, make this nutfah of ours into good (righteous) offspring
