Supplication When Seeing the Ka'bah Directly

Entering the month of Dhul-Hijjah, Hajj pilgrims from Indonesia and other countries begin to arrive in the holy city of Mecca to perform the Hajj. For those who have never performed the Hajj, this pillar certainly has a special place in their lives.

Seeing something directly and indirectly is certainly different. The same applies to seeing the Ka'bah. When we see something beautiful, we are encouraged to glorify and praise the Lord who created all things.

The Ka'bah is the direction of prayer for Muslims throughout the world, so when we see it, we recite the following supplication:

Allahumma zid'hadzalbaita tasyriifan wata'dzhiimaan watakriimann wa mahaabatan, wazid man syarrafahu wa'adhzamahu wakarramahu mimman hajjahu awi'tamarahu tasyriifan wa ta'dzhiman watakriimaan wabirran.

Which means:

"O Allah, increase the honour, majesty, and respect of this House (the Ka'bah). And increase also for those who honour, revere, and respect it among those who perform Hajj or Umrah with honour, majesty, respect, and goodness."

The hadith containing the above supplication was commented upon by al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar in his work al-Talkhis: وهو معضل فيما بين ابن جريج والنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم This is a report classified as mu'dhal (a transmission in which two or more narrators are missing between the reported authority and a higher authority) between Ibn Jurayj and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him).
