Prayer to Recite When Entering al-Masjid al-Haram
al-Masjid al-Haram, the Sacred Mosque or al-Masjid al-Haram is a mosque located in the centre of Mecca and regarded as the holiest place for Muslims. This mosque is also the primary destination for the Hajj pilgrimage
This mosque is one of the places where supplications are answered and it is never empty. Muslims strive to seek reward and draw near to Allah.
The history of al-Masjid al-Haram is inseparable from the Ka'bah. Initially, al-Masjid al-Haram was built by Prophet Ibrahim with his son Ismail. The construction was to elevate the foundation of the Ka'bah which had been submerged for a long time since the time of Prophet Adam.
al-Masjid al-Haram has undergone several renovations up to its current state. In 1570 CE, al-Masjid al-Haram was renovated by the personal architect of Sultan Selim II by replacing the roof and adding decorative domes.
This mosque has an area of more than 356,000 square metres. al-Masjid al-Haram can accommodate more than 900,000 worshippers. This mosque is also known as the largest mosque in the world. What serves as a powerful attraction of al-Masjid al-Haram is the Ka'bah which is the direction of prayer for Muslims worldwide.
When about to enter al-Masjid al-Haram, we are encouraged to recite the following supplication:
Allahumma antassalaamu wa minkassalaam, wa ilaika ya'uudussalaam, fa hayyana rabbanaa bissalaam, wa ad hilnal jannata daarassalaam, tabaarakta rabbana wata'alaita ya dzaljalaali wal ikram. Allahummaftah liiy abwaaba rahmatika, bismillaahi walhamdulillaahi wasshalaatu wassalaamu 'ala rasuulillaahi.
Which means:
"O Allah, You are the source of peace, from You comes peace, and to You returns peace. So keep us alive, O our Lord, with peace and serenity and admit us into Paradise, the abode of peace.
Abundant is Your favour and Most High are You, O Lord of Majesty and Honour. O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy. (I enter this mosque) in the name of Allah, accompanied by all praise to Allah and peace and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah."
