Supplication for the Intention to Fast in Ramadan

Nawaitu shouma ghodin 'an adda-i fardhi syahri romadhoona haadzihis sanati lillaahi ta'aalaa

"I intend to fast tomorrow to fulfill the obligation of fasting in Ramadan this year for the sake of Allah the Exalted."

The supplication for the intention to fast below is recited only once, namely when fasting for the first time or on the first night in Ramadan. This is the intention for fasting for a whole month as a precaution in case we forget to recite the intention for fasting on subsequent days. However, even though we have recited this intention, it is still recommended and more meritorious if we also always intend with the supplication recited daily as mentioned above.

Nawaitu shouma syahri ramadhaana kulihi lillaahi ta'aalaa

"I intend to fast the entire month of Ramadan this year for the sake of Allah the Exalted."

Supplication When Breaking the Fast

Dzhabazh zhoma-u wabtallatil 'uruuqu watsabatal ajru insyaa allooh

"The thirst is gone, the veins are quenched, and the reward is established, if Allah wills." (Reported by Abu Dawud)

Alloohumma laka shumtu wabika aamanatu wa 'alaa rizqika afthortu birohmatika yaa arhamar roohimiin

O Allah, for You I have fasted, in You I have believed, and with Your provision I have broken the fast. By Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
