Supplication Before Eating and After Eating in Islam

Supplication Before Eating

بِسْمِ الله

Bismillaah

In the name of Allah (Narrated by Tirmidhi)

Followed by reciting:

اَللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيْهِ وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ.

Alloohumma baarik lanaa fiihi wa ath'imnaa khoiron minhu

"O Allah! Bless this for us and give us better food than this." (Narrated by Tirmidhi)

If you forget to say Basmallah, then say:

بِسْمِ اللهِ فِيْ أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ.

Bismillaahi fii awwalihii wa aakhirihii

"In the name of Allah at the beginning and at the end." (Narrated by Abu Daud, Nasa'i and Tirmidhi)

Supplication After Eating

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِيْ أَطْعَمَنِيْ هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيْهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّيْ وَلاَ قُوَّةٍ.

Alhamdu lillaahilladzii ath'amanii haadzaa warozaqoniihi min ghoiri haulin minnii walaa quwwawtin

"All praise be to Allah Who gave me this food and provided me with it without any power or strength from me." (Narrated by Tirmidhi)

اَلْحَمْدُ ِللهِ الَّذِيْنَ اَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ

"Alhamdu lillahhilladziI ath'amanaa wa saqaanAa waja'alanaa minal muslimiin"

All praise be to Allah who gave us food and drink and made us among the Muslims (Narrated by Abu Daud).
