Supplication to Ward Off Calamities to Avoid Misfortune

This page contains supplications to ward off calamities that are recommended to be recited for protection from sudden misfortune and widespread disasters.

The first supplication contains request for protection by the name of Allah, which according to the cited hadith, if recited three times morning and evening, can protect the reciter from sudden calamity.
Another supplication to ward off calamities asks Allah as the reliever of distress and turner away of tribulation, accompanied by blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad.
The final supplication requests that the land be protected from scarcity of food, plague and disease, indecency and wrongdoing, and various trials, both for one's own country and all Muslim countries.

Supplication to Ward Off Calamities: To Avoid Sudden Misfortune

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

BISMILLAAHIL LADZII LAA YADHURRU MA'AS MIHII SYAI'UN FIL ARDHII WALAA FIS SAMAA'I WAHUWAS SAMII'UL 'ALIIM

In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recommended that this supplication be recited three times in the morning and three times in the evening, then one will be protected from or will not be afflicted with sudden calamity. From Aban Bin Utsman from Utsman that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"Whoever recites 'BISMILLAAHIL LADZII LAA YADLURRU MA'AS MIHI SYAI'UN FIL ARDLI WALA FIS SAMAA'WAHUWAS SAMII'UL 'ALIIM' (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing) three times, will not be afflicted with a sudden calamity until the evening, and whoever recites it in the evening will not be afflicted with a sudden calamity until the morning, if Allah wills." (Reported by Ahmad - 497)

Supplication to Ward Off Calamities

اللّٰهُمَّ بِحَقِّ الْفَاتِحَةِ وَسِرِّ الْفَاتِحَةِ يَا فَارِجَ الْهَمِّ وَيَاكَاشِفَ الْغَمِّ، يَامَنْ لِعِبَادِهِ يَغْفِرُوَيَرْحَمُ، يَادَافِعَ الْبَلَاءِ يَا اَللّٰهُ، وَيَادَافِعَ الْبَلَاءِ يَارَحْمٰنُ وَيَادَافِعَ الْبَلَاءِ يَارَحِيْمُ وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى خَيْرِ خَلْقِهِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ اَجْمَعِيْنَ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ وَسَلَامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Allohumma bihaqqil Fatihah, Wasirril fatihah, Yaa Faarijal hamm, wa Yaa kasyifal ghomm, Yaa Man li ibaadihi yaghfiru wa yarham, Yaa dafi'al bala-i Yaa Allah, wa Yaa dafi'al bala-i Ya rohman wa Yaa dafi'al bala-i Yaa Rohiim. wa sholalloOhu wa sallama 'ala khoiri kholqihIi SAyyidina Muhammadin wa 'alaA Aalihi wa shohbihIi ajma'iIn, Subhaana robbika robbil izzati ammaA yashifUun WasalaAmun 'alal mursalIin walhamdulillaAhi robbil 'aAlamiin.

O Allah, by the truth of Al-Fatihah and the secret of Al-Fatihah, O Reliever of distress, O Remover of anguish, O He who forgives and shows mercy to His servants, O Turner away of calamity, O Allah, O Turner away of calamity, O Most Merciful, O Turner away of calamity, O Most Compassionate. May Allah bless and grant peace to the best of His creation, our master Muhammad, and upon his family and companions all together. Glorified is your Lord, the Lord of Mighty Power, above what they describe. Peace be upon the messengers. And all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds.

اَللهُمَّ ادْفَعْ عَنَّاالْغَلَآءَ وَالْبَلَآءَ وَالْوَبَآءَ وَالْفَحْشَاءَ وَالْمُنْكَرَ وَالسُّيُوْفَ الْمُخْتَلِفَةَ وَالشَّدَآئِدَ وَالْمِحَنَ مَاظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَابَطَنَ مِنْ بَلَدِنَا هَذَا خَاصَّةً وَمِنْ بَلْدَانِ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ عَامَّةً اِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّى شَيْئٍ قَدِيْرٌ

ALLAAHUMMADFA' 'ANNALGHOLAA-A WALBA LAA-A WALWABAA-A WALFAHSYAA-A WALMUNKARO WASSUYUUFALMUKHTALIFATA WASY-SYA DAA-IDA WALMIHANA MAA ZHOHARO MINHA WAMAA BAATHONA MINBALADINAA KHOSSOTAN WAMIN BULDAANILMUSLIMIINA 'AAMMAH, INNAKA 'ALAA KULLI SYAI-IN QODIIR

O Allah, turn away from us high prices and trials, epidemics and diseases, indecency and wrongdoing, different kinds of swords and hardships and tribulations, both visible and hidden, from our land in particular and from all Muslim lands in general. Indeed, You are capable of all things.
