The Earth's Transformation After the Great Flood of Prophet Noah

This article narrates the state of the earth after the great flood in the time of Prophet Noah, from the remains of the destroyed people, the first village built, to the story of the origin of the grapevine plant linked to the intoxicating nature of wine.

When coming out of the ark, Prophet Noah saw the earth filled with white which according to the Angel Gabriel were the bones of his destroyed people.
Prophet Noah built the first village after the flood called Thamanin with 80 of his followers, but then Allah sent destruction until only 7 remained: Prophet Noah, his three sons, and his three daughters-in-law.
From these seven people, all human descendants continued, so Prophet Noah is called the second father of mankind after Prophet Adam.
It is narrated that Prophet Noah was commanded to plant trees, but the grapevine he intended to plant was stolen by Iblis and only returned after agreeing to share the produce.
It is told that Iblis watered the grapevine with the blood of a peacock, monkey, tiger, and pig gradually, which is linked with four characteristics that appear in those who drink wine.

When Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) came out of the ark, he saw the earth becoming all white. Prophet Noah felt bewildered. Then came the Angel Gabriel (peace be upon him) and asked: "O Noah, do you know what this white is that you see?"

Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) replied: "What is it?"

The Angel Gabriel (peace be upon him) answered: "Indeed, this white is the bones of your people."

After learning this, Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) then heard jingling sounds. The Angel Gabriel (peace be upon him) asked again: "Do you know what sound that is?"

"What sound is it?" Prophet Noah asked in return.

He replied: "Indeed, this is the sound of chains that are used to drag your people to the hellfire."

As mentioned in the word of Allah in Surah Noah verse 25:

"Because of their sins, they were drowned and admitted to the Fire. And they found none to help them other than Allah."

And it is also narrated that when Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) came out of the ark, he was with 80 people. After that, Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) built a village and populated it. The village was named "Thamanin." And this village was the first village built on the surface of the earth after the great flood (tofan).

After these 80 people settled in that village, Allah the Almighty sent destruction and these 80 people perished together. There was no one left except Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) and his 3 sons; Sam, Ham, and Yafus, as well as 3 of his daughters-in-law. The total was 7 people. As Allah the Almighty said:

"And We made his descendants the continuing ones [with survivors]," (Qur'an 37:77)

So everyone in this world began with Prophet Noah (peace be upon him). And Prophet Noah is the second father of mankind after Prophet Adam (peace be upon him).

It is narrated by Imam ats-Tha'labi that when Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) had settled, Allah the Almighty revealed to him to plant trees. Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) carried out the command. And the first tree that was planted was a wooden tree. Then Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) wanted to plant a grapevine, but he did not find the tree. So Prophet Noah asked his son Sam: "O my son, did you take the grapevine?"

Sam answered: "I do not know, Father."

Finally, the Angel Gabriel (peace be upon him) came down informing: "O Noah, indeed the grapevine has been stolen by Iblis."

Then Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) said to Iblis: "Return to me the grapevine that you stole."

Iblis replied: "I will not return the grapevine until you agree to share it with me."

Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) said: "Very well, you will later get 1/3 of the share."

Hearing the decision of Prophet Noah, Iblis rejected it. Then Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) raised the offer to 2/3, and Iblis agreed.

Shaikh Kamaluddin ad-Damiri in his book Hayat al-Hayawan said: "When Iblis first planted the grapevine, he slaughtered a peacock and poured its blood on the grapevine until the blood was absorbed into it. After its leaves grew, Iblis slaughtered a monkey and poured its blood on the grapevine. And when the fruit was young, Iblis slaughtered a tiger and poured its blood on the grapevine. When the fruit had grown large, Iblis slaughtered a pig and poured its blood on the grapevine. Therefore, whoever drinks wine will not be free from the 4 characteristics of those animals.

The condition of a person who drinks wine is, first when he drinks, his body will move like a peacock. After drinking, he will walk staggering, dancing alone like a monkey. When it gets worse, he will shout like a tiger. And when it becomes very severe, he will feel drowsy and want to sleep like a pig. And these 4 characteristics never leave a person who drinks alcohol.
