Ismail (Arabic: إسماعيل) (approximately 1911-1779 BCE) was a prophet in the Islamic faith. Ismail was the son of Ibrahim and Hajar, half-brother of Ishaq. He was appointed as a prophet in the year 1850 BCE. He lived in Amaliq and preached to the inhabitants of Al-Amaliq, Bani Jurhum, and the tribes of Yemen. His name is mentioned 12 times in the Qur'an. He died in the year 1779 BCE in Mecca.
Traditionally he is considered the 'Father of the Arab Nation,' but according to Sa'id bin Yahya al-Umawi in his book al-Maghazi, Ismail learned the Arabic language from the Arabs who visited Mecca from among those to whom he was sent as a prophet. Thus, it can be concluded that Ismail was not the ancestor of the Arab nation.
Ismail comes from two words 'listen' (ishma' استمع) and 'God' (al/il ايل), which means 'Listen (to our prayer, O) God.' Ismail bin Ibrahim married Imarah bint Sa'd bin Usamah bin Aqil al-Amaliqiy, then his father commanded Ismail to divorce Imarah, and then marry again with Sayyidah bint Madhadh bin Amr al-Jurhumiy.

Marriage with Meriba and Malchut, it is known that they had a number of children and there was only one daughter named Bashemath. According to Umar bin Abdul Aziz, the Arabs of Hijaz have their entire lineage traced back to his two sons Nabit and Qaidzar.
Prophet Ismail was the son of Prophet Ibrahim with his younger wife, Lady Hajar. It has been explained in the story of Prophet Ibrahim that he was given by the king of Egypt as one of his slaves. With the consent of Lady Sarah, finally Prophet Ibrahim agreed to marry Lady Hajar. Thus, Lady Hajar did not remain a slave to Prophet Ibrahim.
From the womb of Lady Hajar was born a man who was later given the name Ismail. From the lineage of Prophet Ismail would later be born a prophet who became the exemplary model for the entire world's ummah, namely Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Like his father, Prophet Ismail also carried out the work of preaching to invite the people of Mecca to quickly fulfill their obligation, namely to worship Allah and glorify His name. This was done because all the inhabitants of Mecca at that time had already deviated from the teachings of Prophet Ibrahim.
From Prophet Ismail, evidence of the greatness and majesty of Allah still exists until now. Such as the Well of Zam-Zam and the structure of the Ka'bah. From Prophet Ismail, the sacrifice on the day of Eid al-Adha has been immortalized by Muslims until now.
The prayer that was asked by Prophet Ibrahim was answered by Allah. Because from his descendants all became leaders of their respective peoples and became the messengers of Allah.
The son born from the womb of Lady Hajar gave rise to leaders and Messengers. Among his descendants is the Great Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). While from the womb of Lady Sarah was born a descendant who became a leader and messenger as well. So it is very appropriate if Prophet Ibrahim received the title 'The Father of the Prophets.'
